What is the average age of Patients seeking transplants?

This ones really for a clinic/rep to answer i would have thought....After seeing many many results on here i'm just curious as to:-
a) what the average age (i know everyones different) men start to really noticeably loose their hair with MPB?
b) Whats the average age men are having Transplants.
My guess is approx late thirties for both but i could be way off here*nl.

Interesting thread without digging out the a list of patients that have actually had surgery and working out the ages it would be a rough guess of mid thirties. More difficult to say when guys started to loose their hair.

I can factually tell you as I have a big stack of consultation forms on my desk that out of 100 men that I have seen for consultations and this includes previous patients of other clinics and patients that have gone on to have surgery with H&W the average age is 35.25 so you guys are spot on.

The youngest was 24 and the oldest 64.

Thanks Bigmac and Garageland I know it's not wise to have HT'S very young and i don't advise this but i wonder if the mid to late 30's has a lot to do with their financial position. I bet loads of younger guys would want to have a HT but simply can't afford it*nl

I am getting more and more enquiries from younger guys concerned about hairlines and temples as young as 19 in some cases so I think there are more people of that age now looking to do transplants. That is down to the public awareness that transplants can look natural and provide good results which was not the opinion of the general public 10 plus years ago.

I also think that with some countries offering very affordable work it is becoming easier to get quality work. And thirdly I think in young guys the emphasis on appearance and image is more important that it was. Hair seems to be in again were as a while back it was the fashion to shave your head.

I disagree that we should put age specific barriers. I have refused people in their 50's and operated on people in their early 20's.

The key, in my opinion is on following:
1. Patient awareness - If he is aware enough on what is involved not just in HT but in life after HT (I mean decades down the line). If he knows and can make that decision, there is no ground for not doing HT on people in their 20's.

2. Family history - All doctors have to be ethical enough to ask the patient who in their family was the baldest (forget the age at which he turned this bald) and then tell him to assume the worst. That is, plan the first hair transplant assuming that you could go that bald. Or, do not get that first hair transplant. Do not believe a magic cure would come. If it does that will be a bonus. But as of now there is none.

So awareness is more important then age in my experience.

Of course there are grounds for not doing a hair transplant on someone too young. The person performing the hair transplant is in possession of superior knowledge or at least should be. Part of being an advisor on anything is steering people in the right direction and part of that is sometimes having to say no €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦..because it is not in your best interest and I will not take part in something that I believe is not in your best interest. It goes against my ethics and who I am as a person €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦really it €™s very simple.
