Comparing to other patient timelines can make you depressed when you’re not seeing much growth yourself. 5 months in and you look to be starting with more growth. You may get a huge burst of growth or it may be slow and steady in the next few months.
It’s good to hear you don’t need the hat now and that your confidence is returning. As well as fibres, you can try Dermmatch which works well in the hairline.
Keep your chin up and try to stay positive.
Thanks BM, I’m going to look into Dermmatch as the hairline is the most challenging part when I’m using the fibres!

6 Month & 1 Week Update:
I can definitely see some improvement when I compare photos month on month. However I am still behind on where I’d hope to be, and also slightly concerned about the gaps/density, but appreciate that is part of the journey.

Still using the Alpecin caffeine shampoo and taking biotin, saw palmetto etc. I will probably start Finasteride at 12 months+-.

6 months is still considered early for many patients. I can see hairs in your hairline that are getting ready to push through (the black dots) so new growth is continuing. DermMatch or similar do work well in the hairline area.
Your temple corners were completely barren before surgery (see before picture below) Would it be possible to take a similar picture to compare your progress?

@HTL33 there are a few of us waiting for late growth from the Hair Dr, I’m 8 months and experiencing “slow growth” also

have you been in contact with the clinic?

Has the hair dr given a reason why there a few late growers? Could be down to storage solution that the grafts are kept in? I was reading dr Cooley puts them in Acell which then accelerates growth.

As @Bigmac has mentioned 6 months is still considered early for many patients. Each individual has their own biological and physiological factors, therefore comparisons with others timelines can be frustrating. We always advise waiting until 12 months to assess the growth and then if necessary considering further intervention. As you are aware the clinic stands by its work and will support you until you are 100% satisfied with the outcome. Look forward to seeing you at the clinic for follow up in due course.

Sommiya

In response to My2021story and Kevboy:

I had sent my pictures across via WhatsApp to the Hair Dr, exchanged a few messages then Adam called me later.

I had discussed going in for a check up previously (although I live a few hours away so it needs to be on a day off) and I am trying to arrange a date when I can sort it with work.

No reasons on ‘slow growth’ as such more just that I need to be patient and wait 12 months.

From my conversations with all the guys at The Hair Dr, and as you can see in the post above (thanks Sommiya) I will be supported through this journey until I am satisfied - if that means I need a top up etc it will be done. I hope that isn’t the case though and I see a big change in the next few months! Fingers crossed.

7 Month and 1 Week Update:
I had a check up at the Hair Dr Clinic in Dewsbury the other day, was easy to arrange with Adam who is always great to talk to.

Dr Arshad said I needed to wait patiently until the 12 month mark and wasn’t concerned with my progress. He looked at my implanted area and could see new hairs sprouting through. Went on to taking some pictures of me which I will show below.

Overall the check up didn’t last too long, and went pretty much as I expected. I am in a place where I can cover my hair with fibres and am happy with how it looks once I’ve done that so I’m quite happy to wait it out till 12 months and review after.

If I need a top up, I would be offered one which is great to know.

I started Finasteride yesterday, so I am hoping for no sides!

I know it's tough when you see fast growers but you can see the progress from day one and I can see more hairs sprouting in those pics still.

Hopefully you will be happy at 12 months but must feel so long away still! Im at 6 months so just behind you and seeing similar signs of a few more hairs pushing through.

Theres still a good few months to see more growth. You had 2 bald areas transplanted with enough grafts to create a good density. Could you possibly add some pictures similar to your surgery day ones?
If fibres aren’t working too good you could try DermMatch or similar which works well for the hairline.
Good luck with the Finasteride. Hopefully, you’re a good responder.

8 Month Update:
It’s been a month of ups and downs in general with my hair. I had a wedding over the weekend and I had pinpointed this as one of my key post op dates where I should feel great about my hair - I didn’t, not without fibres/concealers.

I am definitely nowhere near I would want to be with it right now. But I will try to reserve judgement until the 12 month mark.

Based on a study done at the Hair Dr clinic and then posted onto their Instagram page, I thought it was worth me comparing myself vs this, note I was also not taking finasteride until the last few weeks:

Based on this chart on average I should be two thirds of the way there now at 66%. I need significant growth over the next month looking at the phases, or simply my result has been poor to date. But once again I will reserve judgement until month 12.
