Do you regret or are you glad that you had surgery?

I've been unhappy about my hairline for the best part of a decade. My father has the same hairline, and I think it looks fine on him. My mate has even less hair, but wears it short, and I think he looks fine as well. But sadly, when it comes to my own hair, I feel painfully self-conscious, and have never been able to accept it, no matter how many times I see it. Now I've finally bitten the bullet, and booked myself in for surgery. But as the date looms, I am assailed by doubts. So I want to ask all those who have already had surgery: do you regret the decision or are you glad that you went through with it?

I dont regret the decision to have surgery, I wish though I did more research.

If you do your research and choose someone who do everything correctly like placing grafts randomly and not in rows, placing singles in the front with the use of high magnification glasses and have the technicians use microscopes to sort the grafts into singles, doubles, multis etc I doubt you will regret it because it will most likely look natural. Research is key to not regret a hair transplant.

Having my HT has changed my life completely!! I’m more confident in myself and less self conscious about if people are looking at my hair. The fact I can now style my hair better than I even could in I was late teens is a big plus also

I can totally relate to how you’re feeling.

I’ve been working towards a procedure for 6 months and intent to book soon for it to happen in early 2023. As the go/no go date draws closer though, my thoughts swing wildly. I‘ll be really positive about gaining a sensible mature hairline and filling in the gaps, picturing what it will be like, natural looking and people either won’t notice with it looking so natural, or will be full of compliments. Then I can swing the other way, imagining it being a failure, or looking wrong in some way and it draining rather than boosting my confidence.

I think doing ample research and picking the right surgeon should maximise the chances of a successful outcome. If you can see what kind of results they have achieved you can set your own expectations accordingly. Of course I then panic that somehow it’s all a massive conspiracy and in reality every transplant fails, everyone on Finasteride gets sides etc, people will shun me as it’s not a normal thing to do and says bad things about my character etc etc!

My expectation is that I’ll just have to take the plunge and be brave and that the outcome will be worth it.

I regret my first 3 hair transplants because at the time there wasn’t enough information available.
However, I’m happy that I had my repair surgeries. I achieved a result I am happy with.
Looking back, if I had the knowledge I had in 2008, I would have went ahead with surgery.

What clinic did you book? Make sure you do enough research, dont stress.

Regret my previous procedure and now not sure if I have enough grafts left to remedy anything. Was fooled by accreditations and didnt pay close enough attention to results posted by the surgery to spot red flags.

Im now going to see a few doctors to see if I am a candidate and if anything can be done to repair

Hi Frankie.

I’m sorry to hear your surgery did not turn out well.
You went to Dr Civas in Turkey. Maybe you could update your journey on here so we can see what went wrong, how does your hair looks now.

Essentially it looks like they took out more than the 3000 grafts they said they would and left me with a depleted donor along with hardly any growth in recipient area. The donor doesn't look as bad as it used to but don't believe there will be enough for another effective procedure.

I think you need to be evaluated in person by a good Dr who can estimate available grafts in the donor.

For the front you might need something like 2000 to make it look good. The crown prob need more than 2000. Looks like you got some good beard aswell, some Drs can mix in some beard, but becareful to mix in too much, since beard hair is usually more coarse than scalp hair, it can look unnatural.
