What to expect - tomorrow's the day!

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well. Tomorrow is my big day. Anyone here able to give me a heads up what kind of thing to expect? I know each clinic will do things slightly differently, but wondering in general how the day will go.

I'm particularly curious to know more about the start of day. I arrive at 9.30am. I know I need to have my head shaved and a hairline / plan marked out. I'm guess that'd be done by around 10.30am latest. How long does the anesthetic etc take to kick in? Is it straight on with things as soon as it is effective?

You’ll most likely be given consent forms to read and sign either before or after you have your pre-op consult with Dr Reddy. During the consult he will explain how many grafts it should take and mark out your transplanted area. Haircut could be before or after this.
Then once you’re both happy you’ll proceed into the surgery room. You may be offered a relaxer such as Valium. Then the anaesthesia part will begin. It’s roughly 20 - 30 minutes to complete and be fully effective. They’ll test your scalp to see if you are numb. At any time if you do feel anything, let them know as you’ll need a top up.
Wear a button or zip up top on the day of surgery. This will allow you to get dressed and undressed without any contact to your newly transplanted head.
Have a decent breakfast prior to arriving.

I don’t know how long Dr Reddy takes in his pre surgery consults but you should expect about an hour before you’re in the chair. Just think of the nice new hairline you’ll have tomorrow.

Speaking of which I'm really undecided. I know Dr Reddy will have a great eye for these things and will only do what he thinks will look ok, but I am possibly a little different in what I like, in that I think a little temporal recession looks good, and more masculine.

I have attached 3 pictures. One of Dr Reddy's proposed hairlines (he draw it twice on different days and each were slightly different). The one with the green mark is more where I'd like it, so cutting into the temples more. And the third is me with temoral recession but before the front thinned. I REALLY liked this look and love the shape of the temples. So not rounded but more angular.

Any thoughts????

I’m thinking both designs would look good. They both are male mature hairlines that will preserve donor availability for future use if needed. Ask him to show you some examples of similar hairlines that he has done. Seeing grown out results will give you a good indicator of what to expect.

I've looked on his Instagram and it looks like many, although not all, of his hairlines are quite rounded. As he has drawn. They look good, so I wouldn't be displeased, but I just really like a little recession and this will also preserve hairs as then there's less to cover. Although maybe use them to come out a little at the centre instead.

Decisions!! :/

Take as long as you need tmw deciding on what hairline you’ll be happy with. His hairline results do look good so I’m sure you’ll be happy.

Mmm thanks for saying that, yes I will take my time. As you say his results always look good.

Had a bit of a distaster evening though. I'm not too far from London but decided to check into a hotel so I can walk up. Got to my room to discover there's no aircon. My fault I guess as I didn't check and just assumed it would have. The room's way too hot to sleep in and not even a fan. Asked if I could move to another branch down the road and got told no because I'd already checked in. Like, how am I supped to know the rooms were going to be too hot to sleep in until I got to it.

So I walked to the other hotel in the hope they'd help. A bus completly drenched me. My trainers were squelching, and no way they'll be dry in the morning.

Other hotel said I could move for an extra £33. Job done....but she then remembers their aircon is playing up. I get offered a ground floor room insead but told it's noisy as right next to the main road. I decide to take my chance upstairs as they offered me two fans if needed and said if I don't mess anythign up and coe back in 10-15 mins they could see if i could swap if I decide I don't like the roon. Room is a little cooler and the fan works well but it would mean leaving the window open, so probably just as noisy as downstairs.

Went down to see if she could move me like she offered, but that room's now gone. Sigh!!!

Now it's nearly 11pm and I'm just stressed.

Hopefully this is an omen that tomorrow will be the opposite and go well.

On top of all this, just talking pics of my hair, and am depressingly thin on my crown too. I knew I was a little but well.....you know. Too late to add that in now, so i guess if I want to sort it out too it'll mean coming back.

Sorry to hear the hotel is not working out as expected. In London many hotels do not have it due to when they were built and not being able to add it now. It is something we come to expect these days. Hopefully, the fans keep you cool enough to sleep. As for the noise, most people don’t sleep that much on the first night anyway as you’ll most probably be spraying your head.
Take a spare pair of socks tmw so you can put them on when changing into your surgery clothing. They’ll probably supply surgery shoes/slippers so you don't slip on the floor.
You’re probably sleeping now but try not to stress. As for your hair, see what the dr says about Oral Minoxidil as you could respond really well to it. I’m hearing very positive vibes from lots of doctors.

I'm a late night bod so not alseep yet. About to nip out and get soem bottled water for the morning.

The fan is working well so I'm nice and chilled now. In fact it's meant I could rest my trainers on it (blowing inside them) and they do seem to be drying a little.

I'm only staying tonight here. I'm being picked up tomorrow evening by car. It's only about an hour in the car, hour and half at most if rush hour. I'm not expecting to get much sleep tomorrow night. So if by any chance I don't feel like I'm completely dying then that'll be a bonus

I only have one clean pair of socks on me, so they'll have to do.

Mmmm yes, I remember watching a youtube video from only a few years back where it was mentioned that we were close getting topical finasteride. And now I learn that's a reality.

Dr Reddy told me long term, in my lifetime, we will likely see more advances in treatments. So possibly not needing to apply Minoxidil every day, that type of thing. Hope so!

Anyway, thanks for your messages. It really helps to feel suported. Obviously I have family and friends supporting me but 1, they aren't here, I'm alone in a hotel, and 2, people on here have a good insight into how things feel.

Try to get some sleep and don’t be anxious. If you’re tired you’ll doze off during surgery.
There are more companies, doctors etc looking into hair loss prevention. Hopefully, they find something that works. You’ll be in a different frame of mind tmw, seeing your new hairline and being in the comfort of your home.

I'm not too bad now thanks. What will be will be. And this time tomorow I'll be into the recovery phase. yay!!

Main question now though, shorts or jeans tomorow???? I guess what I need to know is whether the room is aircon'd to the max. The temp will have cooled a little by tomorow, but shorts might be more comfy, if not too cold.

Just keep areas nice and clean and TRYYYY know its hard to forgot about it for say 3 months
After 3 month's u will go through the ugly duckling stage
Again leave it on the back burner, maybe get ur hair cut so everything blends in
Then just look forward to the hair growth
Be patient pal cos takes a while and u will think THIS AINT WORKED then all of a sudden people will start asking things u look well etc
Patience is the key now

Hi, Yes excided for the next 9-12 months now. In the meantime it's concentrating on healing.....particularly not catching anything, or randomly scratching my head without thinking.

Good to hear everything went well and there were no issues. From what I can see the work looks nice and clean. It would be great if you could document your experience in the patient section.
