Huge difference in price - help

Hello, I am very new and very early stages of research. I’ve had one 30min initial consultation with Kevin Dallaway who represents Hillside Hair Clinic and one email from Maitkand after submitting my photos online.

HHC said i would need 2250-2500 grafts recommending FUE using the Choi implanter and WAW to extract at a cost of £5500.

Maitland recommended FUE around 2000 grafts at a cost of £10,000

The attached pic is what I received from maitland regarding my proposed hairline.

My question is why is there such a disparity in price for the same procedure?

I am going to continue my research and initial consultations. Obv HHC seems the more compelling option, but is £5500 too ‘cheap’?

Can anyone tell me what Norwood scale I am and recommend clinics?

Thank you so much!

The difference in price is because Maitland is probably the best clinic in all of UK.

All the top UK clinics charge like Maitland.

You look to be heading Norwood 5, possibly needing 6000+ grafts in the coming years which you would need to budget for and hopefully the clinics have told you this.

Their approach now seems to not do the thinning mid scalp and crown as you have some hair still there and focus on the frontal region first.

How is your research going? Have you received further estimates?
Have you looked into the use of hair loss meds?

Yes I started finesteride but didn’t like
the side effects so taking one every two days now which seems to be better for me.
I have done nothing more with research. To be honest the whole process is too daunting and the possibility of it not working or looking worse is the main sticking point.
Advice ?

How long have you been on fin for? You may see some growth in your crown which would reduce your overall need.

2000 is a fairly conservative number for the area, though more experienced surgeons make good use of grafts to provide a more convincing illusion of density.

As mentioned, you may need further surgery for the crown in future. 6k+ is ‘top end’ and I’d hope you’d need less than that, but it’s good to plan (and plan your finances) for the worse case scenario.

I’d say 10k is top end (in terms of price and surgeon experience) at £5/graft and your other quote is low-mid for the U.K.

HHC price is on the cheaper side for the UK. If you’re interested in them you’d need to ask who the doctor is that`ll perform the surgery. Ask what role they play. Things such as FUE graft extraction, incision making. I would ask this of any clinic before booking anything. Have it i writing, then there’s no co or disagreements on the day of surgery.
See how you get on with the Finasteride. You may be able to gradually increase the dosage. Other alternatives are the topical version or one of the minoxidil options.
