I went in for my 1 year review today and the assurance I was given by Dr Arshad about my thinner areas I was concerned about have been laid to rest. The Dr analysed my hair and said I’ve still got some hairs that have maturing to do and if by December the thinner patches are still there, a free top up will be offered so that I’m 100% happy with my HT result. Im one happy HT patient
Yep that's good! either way you'll get the result you want, even if it requires a top up, that's the main thing. I look forward to my in person review, and I'm sure I'll get the same succesful outcome as you!

Exactly my thinking, knowing that I’ll get the result I’ll be 100% happy with even if I do have to have a top up is very reassuring

Did the doctor say how many grafts you’d need if the density doesn’t improve? The hairline from a distance looks ok but the close up does show the gaps, some coarse hair and the multi graft. Will the multi be punched out? You could always pluck it out if it bothers you.

I see him on Monday so haven't discussed anything like that yet, will wait for the review and go from there. But yeah the multi grafts are already known so if top up etc is required then I'm sure they can be easily punched out and replaced with singles!

Will update after Mondays in person review!

Sounds good. They may try to partially transect the graft so they slice it in effect removing 2 follicles and leaving one behind. It’s quite tricky though and not guaranteed.
I hope all goes well on Monday.

Hi Guys, quick update!

I had a constructive and welcome 9 month in person check up with the Hair Dr today, we had a close look at the hair progress so far, took pictures etc and looked under a microscope.

The Dr acknowleged & agreed with the concerns regarding the lack of density overall, and growth on the left side of the hairline especially. Said it was dissapointing but not to worry, we will get the result in the end.

We are not quite sure why some of the grafts just havent come through at all, but oh well. Many factors are at play and it happens!

I've been given 3 months of Minoxidil to try for the last 3 months of the full 12 month recovery to see if it can boost the graft areas with more bloodflow and push through some more grafts that haven't come through, and thicken the thin hairs that have already come through.

Nothing to lose for these last 3 months trying Minoxidil to see if it can help, but the Dr said regardless, a free top up would be provided as part of the treatment plan to add some more grafts to the thin areas, which should achieve the full result in the end!

It wouldn't require too many more grafts, and should be a simple half day job. Regarding the multi grafts in the hairline, he said they can either be easily punched out and replaced, or just have singles implanted around them, but at this stage they don't bother me so will decide that in 3-4 months after final review, and top up if needed.

Overall, very happy with the check up and the advice given and the plan going forward, just have to see where we are after the full 12 months, and if a top up is needed then I'm sure we'll get the full result in the end.

Unless any significant progress is made over the last 3 months of recovery I won't be updating much, I will update after 12 months with the final review, and then plans for top up etc.

Thanks!

Great to hear Your in person consultation was encouraging. It’s great knowing that Dr Arshad will get you to the perfect result. Client support is so important in the HT industry. Keep us posted on your progress.

Good to hear you’re happy with how it went and you both agreed on trying minoxidil and a possible top up if needed. Were any graft numbers mentioned if things stay as they are?
With some luck, you’ll get more progress in these last few months.

Hopefully can get a few more of these grafts to push through in these last 3 months! will see if the Minox helps at all

No graft numbers mentioned yet for a top up, but he said it wouldnt require too much hopefully, seems to be mainly the first 3-4 rows on the hairline where it's lacking density still,

By October we'll have a good idea of the current state of it and what needs doing after!

Maybe a few hundred grafts will be enough if required to get the density matching.

Update:

I am going for a consultation tomorrow with the Hair Dr to plan my Touch Up appointment, no real growth of progress since my last update, so hoping the free touch up will fill up the areas still lacking density on the hairline.

Will update tomorrow after my consultation!

The aftercare provided by @HairDr Clinic is really good. I was told prior to my surgery that if I was not happy with the results, I would get a free touch up. Not needed in my case. I do think hairlines and just behind the hairline can require a second pass, in some cases. My first surgery was performed by De De Reys and I had a second operation 12 months later to add density. I am really glad I did, because it made a big difference. I had to pay for it though! :-( He did not offer the same service as the Hair Dr.

Keep us posted @theshape1122

Good stuff @theshape1122. I know how disappointing it can be. I have been there.

Personally, I think my expectations were probably a little too high after my first surgery. I was expecting the hairline and front of my hair to look amazing - like it did before I experienced any hair loss! Unfortunately it didn't! I was really disappointed and upset with the the density. Although De De Reys is a highly skilled surgeon, I don't think he implanted enough grants in the front area. The growth was good, there was just not enough grafts.

Ah I see, that's annoying, but oh well least it's sorted now!

Had a great consultation today, going ahead with the Touch Up to add more grafts to the hairline & will also include a free PRP treatment which should help alot too.

Looking forward to the final result!!
