20 somethings and the super low hairline

Over the years watching the forums the most troubling trend I have noticed is the 20 somethings being enticed by marketing and going in for the super low densely packed hairline. The troubling aspect of watching this is that the word suicide is mentioned all too often a year or two after the procedure and this is not an exaggeration.

Sometimes these same patients come to the forums for emotional support and answers only to have their posts deleted or actually be banned from posting. I completely understand the need to sometimes delete these posts as some things are just not in the control of the moderators but I must say it is very sad for the patient and this particular forum is not one of the forums I have seen this happen on.

I don €™t quite understand how those associated with this particular clinic sleep well at night. Does all the money really lift the burden off one €™s conscience?

docs either have good morals and ethics naturally or dont,they cant usually be trained at this stage in life I dont think.Thats my opinion.I can usually get a feeling who is good or of dubious character after meeting them and reseraching them also but that is only after previous mistakes and falling for the slick pitch and set up so maybe for the HT virgins it would sometimes be difficult as slick sales pitchs with the things the uninformed like to hear can hook in the desperate which is what alot of us were at one stage with this.

I agree with age and mistakes comes wisdom. That is why this particular clinic seems to cater to the 20+ crowd. Not trying to pick on this clinic but I must admit it absolutely turns my stomach as I have just seen it happen again.

What exactly happens to these lost souls when their posts are deleted and they can't even get any emotional support while they are contemplating suicide?

I know we always tell others to do their research but I will have to stand by what I have stated in the past. It takes at least 5 years of research to figure out exactly what goes on. It's too easy to make a mistake.

Super low hairlinws are a definate NO in my opinion, they`ll cause more problems later on in life.

Yes, but the twenty somethings are always amazed when a clinic can give a 16 year old boy the hairline of a 12 year old. You can't help buy laugh a little when you see their responses of praise and astonishment. Of course this is an exagerration but you get the point. In reality it is very sad to see.

In these cases we Have to take them under our wing from an experienced HT patient And an experience rep from a clinic and steer him the right way... not always surgical tho,

Turning away easy business must be a difficult decision when there are clinics that are more than willing to take that same person €™s money. I think it €™s pretty safe to say that for the most part twenty somethings are very easy sells as they will believe almost anything. Especially one that is just starting to thin and is desperate.

Maybe some of these clinics are just out of touch. They are almost proud to show a grouping a super low dense hairlines on the forums as their way of saying, hey look how great we are, come on get in the chair and we can do the same for you. Of course this is not what I see. I just see some kid that was taken advantage of and is most likely in for some very troubling times ahead especially if they are not emotionally stable.

I have always noticed the word suicide on the forums. All too often it is mostly associated with the young men that got hoodwinked into believing the super low hairline was a good idea. They didn €™t have anyone responsible around to slap some sense into them.

It also appears to me that the most irresponsible clinics out there seem to be doing quite well financially. This makes seeing some change very unlikely at least in the near term.

6 to 7 years ago a particular clinic came out with a marketing vengeance. Promoting and promoting and promoting. We started seeing people begin to post things like... "Go to this guy because he will give you the hairline you want..." or "This doctor will restore my hairline to where it was when I was 16. I am 21 now."

Topcat, myself, many other posters, AND many physicians predicted back then that it would take at least 5 years for there to be a problem. Why? Because these 20 year olds would progress in their hairloss, leaving a low hairline with a void behind it.

Sure enough it came out online, and sure enough my own clinic alone has has to repair many of these unfortunate patients by way of reverse FUE.

Why are they suicidal ? is it because they have been given a supper low hairline and then the rest starts to recede back, or is it they are just not getting the results promised ?

In the cosmetic surgery world the early 20 something males who obsess about there looks to the point of suicide have a name they are called simons it is short for something but I can't remember I will have to look it up

I know that over the years of working in hair transplants I have seen guys that are diagnosed with Body Dismorphic Disorder. Wikipedia definition below:

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) (previously known as dysmorphophobia[1] is sometimes referred to as body dysmorphia or dysmorphic syndrome[2]) is a (psychological) somatoform disorder in which the affected person is excessively concerned about and preoccupied by a perceived defect in his or her physical features (body image).
The sufferer may complain of several specific features or a single feature, or a vague feature or general appearance, causing psychological distress that impairs occupational and/or social functioning, sometimes to the point of severe depression and anxiety, development of other anxiety disorders, social withdrawal or complete social isolation, and more.[3] It is estimated that 1 €“2% of the world's population meet all the diagnostic criteria for BDD (Psychological Medicine, vol. 36, p. 877).
The exact cause(s) of BDD differ(s) from person to person. However, most clinicians believe it could be a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental factors from their past or present. Abuse and neglect can also be contributing factors.[4][5]

The hair transplant BDD's seems to see something that the average person and many times a hair transplant physician cannot see. Usually in my experience it is hairline issues... but also I see patients pointing to a spot on their scalp that in my perception looks full but not to the patient.

Rich Tea points out many 20 year old males thinking of suicide over their looks. This problem is definitely seen in hair transplant. I remember one guy posting this online on HS and we (a few posters) talked to him to try to dissuade him.

Rich Tea most that have posted about being suicidal have lost hair between those that were transplanted plus more behind that area. The now realize that a good portion of their donor has been depleted to achieve the prepubescent hairline and they simply do not have enough to move forward. They feel a sense of helplessness at least that is what I see when I read their postings for the short time they appear.

To add insult to injury their posts are often deleted or they are banned from postings. You see initially they raved about the great result so now the finger is pointed at the patient. Anyway it €™s sad to see and I often wonder what happens to these guys after they are banned from posting.
