The redness will be standing out probably because of your white skin tone and the fact you had a big surgery. In a few days it might not be noticeable.

Day 4: After 1st full head wash and applied Aloe

Washed very lightly, maybe too light but didn't want to disturb anything. Am I only supposed to apply the Aloe after each wash, or can I apply it throughout the day to soothe the area? I think it looks less red now than before. Donor still has scabs but hopefully they will fall off soon.

A light wash is fine. It looks to be healing just fine with no issues. You can apply Aloe throughout the day to help with the redness/ soreness. If for the recipient area the spray is better but do check with your doctor.
The scabs may be present for a few more days, again all normal. They will fall off when ready.

Hi Joe

I started my own thread recently, literally only started considering hair transplant surgery maybe 6 weeks ago after a random encounter with somebody that had gone through the procedure and was over the moon with it. I’m some way off actual surgery but some of the details of your journey ring true with me, similar age (I’m a little bit older at 46) and I also had no clue there were effective medications (I assumed it was all ‘snake oil’ for want of a better way to phrase it). I wish I had known this 8-10 years ago but never mind.

A couple of things really stand out to me here. Firstly, I think the doctor has got your new hairline just perfect, I reckon it will look amazing once it’s grown in. The second is that I can see he has obtained hair from the sides of your head, I often wonder why I mostly see just the back used for donor areas? Unless it is me not being very observant…..which is entirely possible!

Beyond that, I’d just say the whole surgery just looks really nice and clean. I’m researching clinics/doctors and the one I’d thought might be for me has just raised their price significantly, so I’m going to cast my net a little further before committing. Dr Ferreiras’s work seems really top notch.

Anyway, best of luck, I’m sure the wait to see the final result is going to kill you. I reckon I’m probably a year away from actual surgery so it’s doubly bad for me!

Day 6 Post Op: Met with the Dr. Ferreira today

Met with Dr. Ferreira and his assistant today for a head wash. He was kind enough to stop performing surgery on his other patient to look at my hair. Obviously I didn't request or require him to look at it, but it showed me that he truly cares for his patients. He cared enough to remove his surgical gear and step away for 5 minutes to discuss my case and ask me if I was happy with the design.

They both told me that it looks really good and they think I've taken good care of it. Here are some pictures after the 2nd wash today, performed by me. I think Aloe was applied in a few of the pictures.

Having your hair washed at the clinic and getting their view on your post op situation must have felt good and reassured you. The healing looks to be good, a few scabs left that will diminish over the next few days.
Did you ask the doctor about the use of Aloe?

Yes, it was reassuring, especially because they both kept commenting on how well managed and clean I had already kept it.

As far as the Aloe, they recommend after each wash and gave me more today. I also purchased their vitamins, which the Dr even said they aren't necessary but it could help. He didn't push it at all, but I figured, why not do everything I can to support growth.

Good post op care with regular spraying really does work wonders with healing and the general appearance. That’s good to hear regarding the Aloe, another great addition to healing.
The vitamins may give your body/overall health a boost which indirectly should help with the healing and possibly the growth.
Have you been out and about exploring the area?

Looks pretty good the healing process. Are you still in Portugal?

Day 12 Post Op Update:

Not much to report, other than a few scabs that seem really deep. I've tried working on them a little bit more in the shower. Seems like each time I get a few less. Last night I think I saw my 1st hair shed. I'm really going to miss this look because it's grown on me lol. The redness has subsided enough to go in public and I bet most people don't notice. The camera I think makes it look worse.

I do worry sometimes about the lack of density on my right temple (last picture). This temple had the most hair loss so it received a few more grafts but I still see a bald spot, and to me it might make it more noticeable that ive had work done in the area. I'm sure grown in, it shouldn't be noticeable though.

Looks great so far, you will look awesome once the growth is sufficient. I like the design, looks clean and sharp.

Hi Joe. You look to be healing well.
The area on your right temple that looks a little thinner in your picture looks ok pre op. Once everything grows out I don’t think there’ll be a visual difference or noticeable thinner spot. when the image is expanded there is hair under the skin in that area. Try not to worry about it.

Thanks! I'm trying to just trust the process. Really I haven't had many issues so hopefully in 6 months I have some hair to show.

Yes, be patient and e comfortable in the knowledge that you chose a doctor who pays a lot of attention to detail and produces good results.

20 Days Post Op. 1 day shy of 3 weeks

Just wanted to provide an update as it's been almost 3 weeks. Very few hairs have shed but I'm seeing 4-5 each time I shower so I know the ugly phase is coming. Donor area is almost completely healed. Maybe 1 or 2 spots I can feel but not much. My barber looked at it last week and was shining light on the Donor. He couldn't believe that I had a bunch of holes in my head. He could only see a few small red spots but he was inspecting it. The red spot on the bottom of my neck is a birth mark that I apparently didn't realize I had until I shaved my head.

Overall I think it's looking decent. Redness looks worse as day goes on but I don't think it's too noticeable. I'll likely wear a hat starting soon anyway.

Note: picture of the back is with/without flash.

Your donor has healed really well. You’d never think 3500 grafts had been removed and hearing that from your barbers close inspection must be reassuring.
The redness in the recipient does not look bad without the flash. Are you still applying the Aloe daily?
At 3 weeks most people have shed. There is still time for it to happen but you could be one of the lucky ones where it continues to grow or you only have a part shed.
Wearing a hat now is perfectly fine.
Thanks for the update.

Yes I've been applying Aloe daily but I'm feeling like my forehead is kinda breaking out with little bumps, possibly from this. I might stop soon as I really don't have much itching and not sure if it really is doing much at this point.

If no itching and the bit of redness is not an issue then stopping is probably a good idea to see if it is causing the bumps. Your healing is going well and most likely does t need any further help.
