3000 grafts - month 6.5 no more growth?

hi all. had my hair transplant done October 2022. I won’t name the clinic just yet as it’s early days

I had a lot of early growth from months 3-5. feel like almost half of the grafts came through during this time period.

from month 5 to now (6.5) however I’ve had no new growth. maybe a handful of new grafts i’ve seen burst through but 99% are the ones i got in months 3-5.

the clinic say this is normal and growth can come in spurts but i’m concerned over no changes in the past month and a half. is it likely that no mores are going to come through and i’m stuck with poor density??

Growth can happen in these spurts. One month you notice a lot, then little to none the next month.
Some pictures would help.
Try not to worry at this stage as you’re only just over the halfway stage. Plenty of time for more growth.

May I also inquire about your immediate post op aftercare routine in terms of hair washes and removal of scabs/dead skin, as well as the aftercare instructions provided by the clinic for the first month post-operation?

Speaking from personal experience, this seems to be the stage of the growth journey where men start to compare themselves to others and may experience some doubt. Therefore, my advice to you at this stage would be to maintain a positive attitude, as you are realistically at a point in the journey where monthly progress will become increasingly evident

thank you. i’ve attached some recent pictures with dry hair. i was happy with the progress just before 6 months and felt positive but with there being almost no new hairs visible at the minute it’s lowered my confidence

it’s still a big difference from my old hairline but with how fast i started off it’s sad to see it plateau

i had to spray with saline every half an hour for the first week. after day 7 i could slowly put some water on it with sebamed shampoo and soak for 20-30 mins. then rinse. i did this for a week and the scabbing came off.

after that for the rest of the month wash once a day. avoiding sweating. didn’t exercise until 3 weeks and the first week after that was low intensity

It's not uncommon for patients to feel anxious at this stage. Based on the photos you've shared, the progress might appear slightly underwhelming; however, it's important to note that hair growth typically accelerates during the period following the 6-month mark.

From my experience, many patients experience significant improvement between the 6- and 12-month milestones, as this is when the majority of the transplanted hair follicles grow and mature. I recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle, taking any prescribed medications or supplements, and following your surgeon's post-operative care instructions to maximize your results.

thank you this is really reassuring to hear, i’ll manage my expectations. is it normal to have growth stop suddenly for around a month? i’ve not seen anyone post about it before so that’s my worry

I can imagine you are concerned if you say it's stopped progressing. See what the next month brings and put more pictures up and let people in the community offer their opinions. I would say to you that your pictures need to be taken whilst you are sitting down with somebody else taking photos. Front top back on both sides with a clear view of the head in natural light, and if possible, do them with dry and wet hair. This is the best thing you can do at this stage as well as try not to worry too much and focusing too hard. Stress and worry I'm not good for your progress and so irrelevant of anything. You're on a 12 month journey and you need to see it through to the end to assess the final results.

Looking at the implant pattern and because you mentioned sebamed at a guess I'd say you've been to the Hair Dr in Leeds to get this done.

Do you have a pre-op picture? 3000 grafts in the area transplanted should produce a nice result. The new hairline is there with what looks like decent growth so far. All you need is more growth to create a good density. This should happen in the coming months.

pre op picture here. i would be happy with the progress but it’s the fact that growth has stopped. i’ve looked for a new burst the past few weeks and there’s just nothing. if other people have had this it would make me feel better but at the minute i feel quite hopeless.

Comparing your pictures and the hairline design I think 3000 grafts was appropriate. You have a complete hairline now that has filled in the temple recession. Waiting for more growth can be difficult but all you can do is wait it out and try not to worry about it.
Growth spurts can be random, one month you have a lot, the following month not much change.

If it helps out, I’m in a similar situation. Had mine October 7th and I was seeing steady progress until this month, now it seems to of frozen. But I have a magnification mirror and with that I can clearly view changes happening in areas that had nothing prior. I’m starting to get a lot of scalp itch and pimples, so my guess is it will kick off again in about a month.

hi posting an update. it is currently 10 1/2 months post operation. i haven’t noticed much growth since posting the initial images and feel quite deflated. the clinic has said to wait until the 12 month mark to monitor, but i doubt much will change. i started to take minoxidil and a fin-min spray back in May. my hair is very thin in the recipient area and noticeable unless in a dark place. let me know your thoughts

So it looks like this is gonna be more or less the final result in my opinion. I’d say if I’m being honest, I’d have expected more density than this if you’re happy, and that is the main thing. Do you think that you should’ve had more density or are you happy with this?

not happy at all with it. i wanted a lot more density sadly.

I can’t say I blame you. It’s frustrating when you expect what in reality should be a great result from a fairly straightforward surgery (minimal loss and a great donor area)
