A rare look at massive shock loss from an FUE.

Many years back this patient visited the clinic I worked for before SMG. He was distraught from an unusual and rare condition... Shockloss within an extraction area due to an FUE procedure. He received the FUE procedure from a clinic that was relatively new to performing FUE. It wasn't clear as to what caused this however there were some suspected issues.

1. A punch size that was used was greater than 1.1, 1.2, etc..
2. The procedure started around 7am and ended around 11pm.
3. The patient was injected over and over with anesthesia and epinephrine to control bleeding.
4. A previous scar from a strip excision reduced the overall nerve conduction and blood circulation.

Again my last physician was scratching his head and was stumped as to what exactly happened.

I am posting this to show that even in this seemingly less invasive procedure, there are complications that can arise.

Great post Hairtech, that's awful I feel for this poor guy. Was the shock loss permanent or did it grow back? The numbness must have been scary as hell for him.

I had a sore head 4 weeks plus post op after i had fue back in 2005, it was very painful, thankfully i never experiences shockloss like this.

I too would be interested to know if this patients shocked hair grew back.

Ya this guy must have been ok after a few months if it was truely shockloss. He did not report anything again. Maybe I can find something in an archive.

Shockloss in the donor area can occur with FUE, even when performed to a high standard, but this is quite shocking. I've never seen anything like it and I hope the patient's hair did recover.

ISNT that a very long time for a fue surgerey, 7am to 11pm,i know that large strip cases can take a long time,how many grafts were taken and how much of the balding area was covered? front third ,half,or everything....do you know if he had good growth ,my heart goes out to this guy,hopefully all is well

In the early days of fue i would guess it did take some doctors a very long time
