I'm impressed....!

I think this video was made in May of last year but the first time i saw it ...

Extreamly interesting...

The only question I have is:

Why dont they give extra ACELL for postop application?

On the ACELL website everyone who regenerated tissue applied ACELL daily for up to several days/weeks (depending on the injury/wanted outcome)

So why not extraction sites..!

Well we have been using ACELL for 1.5 to 2 years. It comes in two forms. A powder form and a solid material sort of like a thick piece of paper. The paper like material is used to sew into a strip layer before closing the strip. The powder form is mixed in saline and is a suspension... so it has to be continually shaked... we use it on the recipient area and the grafts by dipping 10 to 20 grafts in a drop of suspension then placing the graft in the slit.

We do not particularly use it in the donor area although a few clinics are using it exclusively in the donor.

I must caution everyone reading and in my opinion and others... the jury isn't exactly out as to how much improvement (if any) actually occurs in the donor. In fact, posting one video of one persons donor does not preclude ACell to being a viable regrowing application. There needs to be studies involved in showing multiple instances of re-growth and a control group.

However we have seen some significant growth changes in the FUE in the recipient area in different patients. Then again we also need to show multiple instances of improved growth and a control group. This is why we do not mark up the product and we fully disclose that yes we have "noticed" improvement but it isn't a guarantee.

Now as to your question: This is a great idea however having using the suspension everyday, I know that there may be a couple of problems:

1. ACell as a suspension will be hard to get to penetrate a scabbed over site... but who knows it could be beneficial on the surface.
2. COST! It is expensive for even us to buy it.
3. QUANTITY! It comes in a small vial and at this time we dilute the powder max with 3cc/ml of sodium chloride... so that wouldn't last long in a spray bottle.

Food for thought. Great topic.

Thanks Hairtech.

By the way several years or so ago I mentioned online about another potential application for ACELL.

Most plastic reconstructive surgeons know needling a scar does in fact improve its look and feel to an extent.

We also know strip scars can be improved by using ACELL also to an extent

So wouldn't it make logical sense to try using a type of Tattoo machine filled with a liquid form of ACELL ?

This would get the ACELL deep into the existing scar along with breaking it up with the needling....Maybe even go a quarter inch beyond the scar itself to get a more natural group of cells into the mix...

Id be a volunteer to any doc or Tattoo artist willing to try it....!

This would be for older existing scars only....

hhhhmmm now this is actually interesting... It would be easy to mix the powder in the inks...

The ACell rep visited our clinic awhile back... they are using ACell in so many applications at the moment in medicine. It seems that in the HT world we are buying up with significant numbers.

Keep this thread... you should get recognition of this idea if it comes to fruition.

One thing though... tattooing or SMP is way more shallow than a US inch... but in the scar it would make sense to needle the scar and SMP it with ACell... The needling alone would increase circulation to the scar... ACell would provide a drawing of growth hormone activity to the scar... And the tattoo could help hide the scar... in the righ hands.
