Apologies if this is just a typical newbie thread, I'm not trying to spam the board. Just wanted to try and get some advice on what I should do next.
28 years old and I'm currently a Norwood level 2. Well that's the conclusion I've come to. When I upload pictures people could say I'm a level 3. I'm very new to all this and it's been so much information to take in.
Long history of baldness in my family. My dad, his dad, mums dad and brothers etc all bald.
I noticed I started receding slightly at age 21. I have very thick hair so this only started becoming noticeable in the last year or so. I started to try and take action with my hair loss at 24 by using regaine. I used it for 2 years but maybe not as religiously as I should have done. I noticed the odd hair growing back but hardly thought it had done anything. I stopped using at 26. Now at 28 I realise that it maintained my hair quite well. I've had significant hair loss since.
I've always been very delicate about my hair loss. Only telling people who were close to me etc and almost didn't want to admit to myself it was happening. Posting about it on the Internet would have been my worst nightmare. But the more I research the more I realise people share the same troubles as me.
Anyway, instead of being miserable in silence I decided to take action. Remember I'm naive and have no idea about hair loss. I visited advanced hair studio. Straight away I realised it was not for me. It was a bloke who knew very little about hair loss promising me the world. That there advanced laser treatment would thicken my hair right up. And if for some unknown reason it didn't work they would give me there revolutionary strand by strand procedure (wig). All for big bucks. I could write all day about what was wrong with that company. But I won't, it just wasn't for me.
It was only since Wayne Rooney went public with a HT that it became common to me that this procedure actually existed. But when I heard it cost 30k I just assumed it was only for celebrities. This is when I started looking online and came across this forum.
Basically I'm trying to get good advice and would love to talk to anyone about hair loss, there experiences and what they think would be best for me. It's fair to say that it's become an obsession of mine.
When I realised that a hair transplant exisisted I simply thought that I'd just go and get one. Obviously I know now that is not the case. Mainly because of info I've got from this site.
Currently I'm back on the regaine (foam this time) and am using it religiously. Thought the next step would be to see a doctor about getting a prescription of finasteride. I'm unsure how easy this will be as I've tried in the past but had no luck. If I am successful in getting it and have no sides for a prolonged amount of time, maybe then go for a hair transplant.
Apologies for going on and on but would appreciate any help from people who know what there talking about. Am I going down the right line? What happens if the doc won't give me the medication? How long should I stay on it before considering a transplant?
