At the beginning of my HT journey

Hi, I've not posted on a forum before but have been reading through all the previous posts and was wondering if anyone could help me.I am 46 and have a receding hairline (I think Norwood 2 or a little worse). I have had 2 consultations in Glasgow, The Glasgow Clinic and Uk Hair Clinics (the second of which I have definitely decided against).From Scotland I can probably get to Brussels as quickly and cheaply as any of the English clinics (although I have sent an online enquiry to Farjo in Manchester).So today I have sent online consultations to WHTC, BHR and Dr Feriduni. I have looked at Proclinic who seem really cheap, is this a bad sign or a happy bonus?Any recommendations on any of these clinics?

Would I need to attend a consultation in person or maybe just do a Skype/Facetime consultation?Both of my Glasgow consultations thought I needed 1300-1400 grafts, one recommending FUE and the other FUT. I am not sure which would be best for me but I am not too worried about a strip scar (I don't wear my hair short), neither is cost an issue.

No easy answer but the more time you spend interacting the higher your chance of making a better decision. Sometimes you have to meet people in person and interact as you can get a better feel. Sure one can just look at pictures but I don €™t think that is enough. Unless one spends an inordinate amount of time online reading and observing for years then in person meetings are probably a good idea.

As a consumer I think most people in general will always pass on a great experience with someone they have done business with as it makes for good conversation and helping someone at the same time. On the same token many love speaking about a bad experience because it makes an even better story. Problem with that is for the most part it doesn €™t apply to hair transplantation. Most do not pass on information as it €™s too personal of an issue filled with secrecy and even online most patients don €™t take the time that is necessary to maybe help that next guy out. As far as telling the great negative story, that doesn €™t go over too well if one does not want to be sued. This is why meeting people becomes necessary and hopefully you can kind of get a feel for the person. Tim you are old enough to have the life experience that is necessary to maybe pick up on those cues, many young guys simply do not have this. What they have is something quite the opposite, they have a brashness and that is in fact why many are still being harmed today, so this is a big plus for you.

If you do decide to go to Belgium you could probably arrange to visit several clinics in the same day or so. Well worth the effort.

We have a Vinci Hair Clinic in Glasgow, you can have your consultation there as well as all your pre and post op but we dont offer surgery there, most clients from your area go to Malaga or London for the surgery.

Firstly ditch the UK Hair clinic you consulted with as they have had too many bad comments (never had surgery with them but not worth the risk imo) secondly i would consult with as many clinics in person if possible to get a real feel for the doctor/clinic before pulling the trigger. The more research you do as only got to be a good thing and will help you ultimately make a good solid informed decision. Please don't rush Hair transplants can be life changing for the better and for the worse.

BHR and Feriduni are both excellent but you may struggle to get an appointment with either this year. Prohairclinic seem to produce good results, I also recommend consulting with Dr Lorenzo and Dr Maras of HDC....can't remember the name of the poster now but the guy who looks like elvis had an excellent result with him and his experience is well documented on here.

Thanks for the information. I have had a reply from Dr Mwamba, which looks interesting but I don't know of his availability yet. I hadn't even considered that they may be so busy that I might have to wait a long time for the procedure. Oh well, I'll just have to wait to see what they all say regarding time scale - to be honest I had hoped to have the grafts done sometime in April/May so fingers crossed...

I echo what bullitnut said, it's best to hold consultations in person. After researching online, I'd make a short list of 5-6 clinics to visit. Make a list of questions for the physicians before you go and write the answers down or else it's easy to forget each doctors' answers. Ask to see before and after pics. Choosing a physician then gets much easier if your hair restoration philosophy & goals are the same.
When you call clinics for consultation appointments, ask for their surgery availability at the same time. They should give you a rough idea of available dates.

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum.

Have you looked into Finasteride and Rogaine before opting for a HT. You need to be a HT is the right choice as there`s no turning back once its done. Both your consults estimated the same amount of grafts which is a good indicator on what`s needed. In person consults are always better but the next best thing imo is via Skype etc especially as you`ve had the two consults already. Send as many clear pictures with your hair loss history to the clinics before you Skype them.
