#BAM Shaved to "O" FUE Donor (2514 FUE grafts): Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC & LA)

This 42-year-old man underwent a follicular unit extraction (FUE) session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2514 grafts were placed. Another patient shown after 2537 FUE grafts harvested.

Patients often inquire how short they may wear their hair after an FUE. That is the purpose of this informative post. However, plenty of patients elect to wear their hair long throughout as the growth cycle of the hair in the recipient area allows for long hair to be worn as a facial framing. This is shown in the second image.

Aspects of our surgical approach can be viewed on our site’s Most Common Questions page. Three elements combined to help improve his experience: graft harvest, graft storage, and patient safety. Rather than a larger FUE punch used by a robotic approach, Dr. Wesley used a smaller caliber hand-held motorized punch to perform the donor harvest. This approach better enabled the capture of donor intact hair roots that are slightly curved beneath the skin surface. Upon completion of the harvest, the patient’s donor area was treated with PRP and ACell in order to not only minimize scar tissue formation, but also encourage partial regeneration of donor hair follicles.

The patient returned one year after his procedure and images of the patient can be seen below. This link illustrates the timing of hair growth after surgery. Similar patient hair transformations with Dr. Wesley and his team may also be viewed.

A number of you requested to see a recipient area for a patient who wears his hair so short.

Here are this patient's images a year later.
