Does anyone know a good place in the south to get the blood tests needed for transplant op ?

I asked my GP but he just looked blankly at me

Brighton or London would be ideal

Thanks

Any G.U.M clinic should do them, tell them its for working abroad and you need a letter confirming the results. Some may give you the letter for free but i think most charge a small fee.

Why do you need coagulation and blood count ? Has a specific doctor asked for this as a requirement ?

4 awesome repairs with SMG
No not all clinics require them, best to ask this during a consultation as they all vary

You could ask the clinic where previous patients from your area have had the blood work done.

Ya we (SMG) used to require pre-op blood tests. Actually, I only know this from reviewing prior patient charts. Since I have been at SMG they do not require this.

Not too many clinics ask for pre-op blood tests anymore but there are a few good clinical reasons why a clinic would ask for these tests...

Reasons:

1. Obvious pathogenic diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis C, B., sometimes an RPR for syphilis. However since the entire world in healthcare has adopted universal precautions which means treating everyone as though they are positive for these diseases (thusly donning or using gloves, eye shields, masks... which are sometimes optional to the healthcare professional) then there should not be a problem or cross over infection.

2. Blood count: This is usually called a complete blood count or CBC for short. This can show if you are anemic (a low blood volume or red blood cells) or possibly an infection (a high white blood cell count). This test is a routine general practitioner test given from time to time. But it is not seriously needed for a hair transplant. However some clinics just like to know.

3. Coagulation testing. This is usually called a prothrombin time (PT) partial prothrombin time (PTT) Or some derivative (blaah blah blah). It tests to see how fast or slowly your blood clots... which can be important in surgery. HOWEVER, this test is not usually needed today. Unless you have a rare disease such as Von Willebrand syndrome (a terrible clotting disorder) or you do not follow a clinics protocol with stopping your medications such as aspirin, plavix, ibuprofen, and many others... prior to surgery then 99% of people do not have issues during a hair transplant. Oh by the way... just for you information... Alcohol consumption a day prior to your procedure can cause excessive bleeding. just a side note.))N_):)

I just asked BHR to do the blood tests, there was a fee for it, but BHR doesn't make anything out of it, they charge us what the testers charge them, it was just easier.

Yep, it's probably worth getting it done there the day before.

You'll also very likely get a chance to meet Steve, and if you're very lucky - Dr Bisanga, for a quick catch up.

They don't need the results to proceed, they just need to take blood before operating. They literally took blood from me and then minutes later started the op.
