Comparison of hairline and crown over a decade

I’ve posted here before and I’m still undecided whether I should take a fin as a preventive measure but what stops me is that I’m unsure if there’s a change or if I’m being overly critical.

I turn 35 in a couple of weeks and I know that my hair is good for 35. However I don’t know if it’s because of the texture and colour of my hair, but I get paranoid by it - that and if you post to Reddit you get told you have hair loss.

These shots of my hairline are 2025 (today, I do have product in making it a little greasy), 2018, and 2015.

Would you say there’s a change in shape or density, or is it just more recent cameras capturing more details?

This is a close up of my hairline - this is what bothers me because it’s “sparse”, yet the general shape appears to me the same after a decade. And the hairs look the same diameter - just spaced out.

These are two shots of my crown, 2025 then a decade ago - newest one is under a bathroom light.

Just looking for opinions.

Thanks

Hi @marty90

It´s hard to measure texture from pictures, but your hair looks healthy. Your hairline looks fine, maybe it´s slightly thinned along the immediate line but overall strong, called maturing. Your crown shows little to no change over a decade, obviously it can look better or worse depending how your hair is styled.

Finasteride or minoxidil in different forms can help to maintain and in some cases improve your hair, but in your case don´t expect to see big changes as your hair is still strong overall. At 35 male hair loss pattern can still occur, but there are no obvious signs at the moment. For instance your crown, while it´s possible to see your scalp, the area is naturally defined, and no signs in the picture it has started to open.

Thank you for your reply. My hairline as far as I can tell is the exact same shape as a decade ago, but then when pulled back there are “less dense” areas - however it seems to be more like an uneven hairline? I’m not sure.

I mean when my hair is clean I think it’s okay and more just my hair colour?

Regardless I think you’re right. I won’t go on meds. I think my biggest concern - as per the second image - my hair being so straight and under harsh lighting.

For red this is 9 years ago;

Both the crown and the hairline are separate parts of the scalp that are susceptible to balding, albeit they do so in different ways. The crown is the upper, center region of the head, whereas the hairline is the front border of the forehead's hair growth. Whereas crown balding entails thinning or hair loss in the circular region at the top of the head, hair loss at the hairline usually shows up as a receding or maturing hairline.

It is possible the density has thinned a little. Meds could really help with this.
