Considering HT with Dr Shapiro

So I am considering having an HT procedure done. After months of research I believe I will go with Dr Shapiro at SMG they seem to have excellent feedback. I am trying to decide if I should pay the extra money for fue or not. I am very concerned about scarring as I tend to have somewhat thin hair to start with. I have combed this thread and it seems like everyone who has had it done has had excellent results although I wonder if it would be realistic given the severity of my receding hairline. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

To me you look a good candidate for both procedures, lower your hairline with a few thousand grafts to give a more youthful look. Are you on Propecia?

No I have not taken propecia mainly do to the side affects which have allready been discussed in depth on this site. I should mention that I do have what I call a widow's peak or landing strip lol which I shave due to the fact that is looks quite unseemly given the depth of the recession on either side. Unfortuneately it is not really visible in this photo. I am hoping to get by with about 1500 grafts for right now and maybe have a second procedure done in a couple of years

Hey Alan I work for SMG. How is your crown? Just judging by the pics you have posted and you wanting around 1500 grafts, in my opinion FUE would be a a decent consideration. However I do see that you are concerned about not getting on propecia for potential side effects. And yes 2 to 3 percent of folks do in fact have a problem with finasteride, however you could try it out and see how you handle it. I know many people that do not have a problem with it and the very few I read about that have, have recovered from the effects after a few months and continued therapy. Topcat... a very long poster on this forum (and a friend of mine) is totally against meds... however I am not totally against finasteride or minoxidil.

The reason why i bring this up is because it looks like your hair from the pics is sort of wispy and this could be reduced by finasteride/minox and after a transplant could be beneficial to you. This is just food for thought.

As of right now my crown is fine, though I do tend to have what I would consider light-medium density hair. I have recently started taking Biotin hoping that it might help with nourishment and overall hair health, I don't however, anticipate dramatic improvement on density. I have emailed multiple pictures from all angles to your office for the advisor to review.

I will certainly discuss the propecia option during the consult. I am not totally writing it off, just cautious. My goal is not really to increase the overall density however I would like to lower my hairline and have a natural looking transistion from front to back.

take a half a propecia pill every second day that should reduce the risk of side effects even further
