Im sure you have all read it elsewhere but its always a little tonic to read it in black/white -yesterdays express page 5 - cure for Baldness ,about growing hair from stem cells ,team have done it with animals and hope to do it with humans within the next year -sorry im no good on a computer or id have pasted the article but for anyone needing a boost it makes good reading .

Thanks for the information David, hopefully this is true. Research has been going for years with the stem cells. If this is true it will a lot people very happy.

SCIENTISTS have come a step closer to creating a cure for baldness, it emerged yesterday.



For the first time, a team in Germany has grown hair follicles from stem cells.

Although the study used cells taken from animals, they hope to create human hair follicles from human stem cells within a year. Stem cells are the body €™s master cells. With manipulation in the lab, they can be grown into any tissue in the human body from blood to bone and even whole organs.

Although stem cells are seen as the holy grail for medicine, progress has been slow and very few treatments are widely available.

But Professor Roland Lauster at Berlin €™s Technical University believes his work could be a step towards providing treatment for the 80 per cent of people who suffer from hair loss worldwide €“ such as the comedian Harry Hill and football legend Sir Bobby Charlton

Prof Lauster claims the treatment €“ which would probably require the hair follicles to be implanted on to the head €“ could be available in five years. €œPreparations for this are already in motion, € he said. The scientist added that the creation of skin and hair follicles in a lab could also prevent the need for testing cosmetic products on animals.

€œSince 1950 the number of new chemicals used in cosmetics has risen 500-fold, and so has the need for animals to be experimented upon to ensure they are safe for humans, € he said. €œThis could well do away with the need for them to suffer. €

Shame really that we cant just come to terms with hairloss without hanging on to pipe dreams like this. I doubt if this will really work and if it does the cost will be huge.

We need hope matey, iv come to terms with mine but if something like this really did come off it would make a lot of happy people and id gladly give half my salary to have all my hair back.

I used to think like that but whats the point, if your hair falls out so what. Anyone scarred up through crap hairtransplants and wrong desicion ´s would love just to be bald..

Ive lost so much of my life worring about being bald 19-47 (now) and after 3 transplants which only helped slightly for all my life savings + still paying back loans.

Now my son is 20 and loosing it fast - id give my life so he doesnt have to go through the emotional and pysical pain ive been through - ive wasted my life!!

I couldn ´t speak to my dad about it good guy but just not the kind of thing we would talk about. You just have to be there for your son and try and put things into perspective. Hair is not everything. I wish i had had someone to reassure me , im sure you dont want him to go down the H.T route if your not satisfied .

Im 41 and couldn ´t care less about being bald, its the scarred up freak look that does bother me. But you can not let it dictate your life.

Having hope is part of what makes life worth living. Hope to become a better father, mother, friend, writer, speaker, businessman, have better health or even having more hair. Really it €™s good to have hope and work slowly toward goals that will make you a better and happier person. It €™s when it becomes a complete obsession that it might be unhealthy.
Having hope is part of what makes a person more of an optimist and happier in life and that €™s a good thing. It transfers over to other areas of your life

I think there is quite a difference in comparison , as you CAN be a better person doesn ´t really have anything to do with hope.Hoping to have more hair and waiting for something that may not happen is not in many cases reality. If i could turn the clock back i would and it wouldn ´t be hoping for more hair .

I disagree, but I do respect your opinion.

Sometimes being a better person depends on outside circumstances. Even though we might be actively working towards a goal it does help to have hope that it all works out. There are so many examples that could be listed, but here is one.

Since are situations are somewhat similar how would we feel if we knew for a fact that our scars could be eliminated and we could be completely normal looking again in exactly 3 years from today. How would knowing this reflect in the way we interacted with others and just in general how we perceived the future.

The fact is it doesn €™t matter if it happens in 3 years or not, and that is what is so great about having hope. It can make your life better right now, today.

Hope is good imo,this is one of the reasons i started this forum to show people whats really out there and not to give them false hope as too many scams about.

Its the false hope that is worrying, im not knocking hope. I also HOPE to one day look faily normal again but im not basing my life on it . If it does then great if it doesnt then its my hard luck.

I think people should be careful when they see a nice new H.T hairline as just because someone else has it , it does not mean you will get the same.

I would like to spend my time in the future trying to make people not feel ashamed about hairloss and how to cope with it rather than living with false hope.
