This patient underwent two follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedures totaling over 3000 grafts. An athlete who liked to wear his hair short, this patient presented to Dr. Carlos K. Wesley's (NYC) approximately 18 months after his first session for follow-up images.

This looks very dense, especially considering his hair is so short ¬b`. The fact that there is none of the usual layering effect needed to create density from a transplant shows this is a great result!!

Thanks, baldasadadger10! This patient is very happy with his short hairstyle and the FUE design will hold up for many years even when his pre-existing hair thins over the next 10-15 years.

That's a very nice result! Why do people keep talking about "white dot scarring" from FUE? Even with that many grafts extracted and such short hair, I don't see anything.

Thanks for your comment. When performed properly (using a 0.8 - 0.9mm FUE punch), the minimal punctate scarring can only be appreciated if patients wear their hair at a very very short length (i.e. nearly shaved head). As long as patients allow their hair a few millimeters in length, the donor area harvest should be imperceptible.

Fred,
FUE is not a scar less procedure and patients do need to be reminded of this fact. You can definitely shave closer with an FUE procedure than you can with Strip. However, you can see the white dots if you shave without a guard. Majority of patients have no intentions of shaving this close. Many of the fue patients like to shave the back and sides with a #2 guard and there's usually no signs of white dots.

This is a very nice results!
