While not as popular as the follicular unit extraction (FUE) megasessions for young men, the "lunchtime" procedure of long-haired FUE sessions has gained favor amongst the middle-aged male population. Rather than having to shave their entire donor area, a more focused FUE session enables patients to wear long hair in their donor area to cover portion of the donor area that was trimmed for the FUE harvest.

This 68-year-old gentleman came to Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) because he wanted to focus on "touching up" a part line that had thinned over the years and returned later for follow-up images.

This is interesting, do you ever come across any problems doing the long haired FUE and is it much more difficult to do? Regarding the result i think this patient has attained a nice subtle improvement in keeping with his age, Well done.

Thanks! We should clarify that by "long-haired FUE", we mean that the donor area does not have to be shaven entirely but rather long hair in the donor area can fall over the trimmed donor from which the grafts are taken. This allows for the patient to conceal the donor area even during the time when the trimmed hairs in the donor area are growing back to a normal length. The actual FUE grafts transplanted are still the "stubble" that you normally have in all FUE cases.
