Some people's beards can grow to an exceptional length, I think some of it is down to genre, my beard hair in my crown doesn't get much chance to grow too long because I shave every few days but I guess if i wanted to let it grow it would be the same as my normal beard.

Dr. B has used beard, scalp hair into scars for a long time now and with success, he normally prefers to place a relatively lower density initially to allow for the best yield and not put too much stress on the body to have to heal too many densely packed grafts.

Here is a pic 16 months after fue into one of my scars, its blended in the surrounding hair quite well. I grew the hair to give the fue which was transplanted a chance to grow as i normally shave my head bald. I feel the beard hair does not grow as long as the head hair but its thicker so gives it a denser look..

Hi Zion

Thanks for the pics. I've seen beard hair grow long on the scalp and it may take time for this to happen as the hair goes through cycles. As you say certainly a good choice for going into scar and does make a difference.

Thanks, i dont think it really matters how long the beard how grows when its in the scar . Since growing my hair a few cm ´s longer it gives a more dense appearance .The beard hair is more wire like but again this does not matter, maybe if its on top of your head thats another thing.

The growth does look good. It also looks like you have some pretty good head hair density. Is moving more of that hair around an option?

It seems like you would have enough hair to take care of the scarring and hairline and then just leave the crown alone.

My hair is pretty thin and BHR have said a few times about this, i dont really have a lot of donor but the next stage is to put more hair into the scar ´s and have a go at the hairline.

When planting body hair do most clinics mix it up, ie two body hair to one scalp hair to give a more natural look, maybe it just depends on what cndition the patients remaining hair looks like.

When putting into scars then no, beard hairs work well into them and are usually then camouflaged naturally by native hair around the scar is it grows.

When planting elsewhere then it is as you say wise to mix with scalp where possible to ensure a good blend, so in essence, using the body hair as a filler, but it will largely depend on what the patient has in the bank in terms of scalp hair available that will determine this.

Cheers Sl, what about a very wide scar, would you say all body hair or a mix.

When planting into wide scars or very wide as you say, often the native scalp hair by definition has been depleted. The patient needs to retain the native scalp hair above the scar for coverage, below only will then leave a very limited area to harvest from and many times can be miniaturised from the scar trauma.

So, in essence although a mix would seem ideal in that it could camouflage the beard hair, usually there is not enough good quality hair to take and such a patient is very dependent upon other sources. Obviously each case is taken on merit but as a general observation at such a stage there is not much scalp to take from.

In my opinion only... a mix in a wide scar is good (in certain situations). It reserves more scalp for other issues.
Just as SL states, it is a case by case and more importantly a clinic by clinic situation.

As there are different types of scar tissue, would you say there is any difference in growth/yields etc when transplsanting into them.

Scars can be very different, depth, cardiovascularity, we have placed hair into strip scars, water burn scars, forcep scars with success. For example, this man was left with this scar from birth, another clinic attempted to take a strip from the side and place in the old scar without success. We used scalp FUE and then placed in both the birth scar and the strip scar they left.

If one was to have FUE placed into a scar, how is the blood supply determined?
