Hello everyone.

My name’s John and I thought I’d leave a post to get some advice from the forum.

I’ll be 30 in the next few months and I’ve been looking into hair restoration for the past few years.

I’d say I’m a Norwood 3 right now, with diffuse thinning in the frontal forelock. By 26 I’d started minioxidil foam once a day and by 28 I’ve been taking finasteride/propecia with no side effects.
By late 2022 I will be looking into the possibility of going through with a hair transplant.

I have had 2 consultations with one of those from David at The Maitland Clinic.
We had a good honest conversation about my options, I was told that whilst my donor was okay I made up for it with a good range of hair groupings in the back of the head.

For myself, I feel that my goal isn’t unrealistic, I would like to achieve temple closure with a strong solid NW 2 mature hairline and density to the frontal forelock. I have no desire to lower the hairline, whilst I have a prominent forehead it has never been a big concern for me.

I’ve never been given an exact graft quote but I self estimated it about 2200/2300 grafts, do you think this seems reasonable? I have also uploaded some recent photos.

Thanks for reading

John

Hi John, welcome to the forum.

I think your estimate is in the correct ballpark, possibly 2000 with the potential of a few hundred more on the day of surgery. Numbers can often change when having your final assessment and consult prior to surgery commencing.
It`s good to hear you`ve not had any side effects from the meds. Have you seen any improvement with your hair?
The larger groupings in your donor will help achieve a good density and potentially fewer grafts harvested.
At 30, going with an age appropriate mature hairline is a good decision.
All the best.
Bm.

Thanks very much BigMac.

If I’m being honest, I haven’t felt much regrowth as such but I’m content to try and maintain what I have.

This is how I wear it just now, not much styling options here. I’ve attached a few photos of a hairline I’m aiming for.

I have looked a lot at Dr Ball’s work and noticed that he manages to achieve great results without using too many grafts which would be ideal.

Yes I think with the estimated number of grafts you’ll be able to pull off those hair styles. Doing more with less to create a good illusion of density and naturalness is a skill on its own.

Maintaining/slowing down future loss is the aim, if you get regrowth as well, then you’re onto a winner. Sometimes, you don’t notice any changes as they’re slow and subtle.
