Fue Healing time - How Long.

I`m seriously thinking of an Fue procedure during the Winter months - problem is I only have a small window of opportunity due to work commitments. The maximum time period I have is One week, maybe pushed to Ten days including weekends, I was told that I need 800 - 1000 grafts to buffer up the hairline, this includes having my head shaved. The shaving part is fine as I keep my hair buzzed at a One guard - the concern I have is the healing time, when I go back to work will there be any noticeable evidence such as scars, scabs, swelling which will give the game away.

What can I do to minimize the after effects of surgery ?

Hi,
healing is very fast, it is a matter of days for small procedures.
However the crusting and skin redness takes longer. Crust are gone by day 7 usually, the redness may last for some months.
Swelling is also an issue the first 7 days, but since you are looking at a small procedure you can expect less swelling then large procedures.
I would go for 10 days, after this period there is really not much left to see but some redness.

Greetz,
B

There should be no scars, swelling or scabs by day 10 provided you've started washing your hair properly by then.

However, depending on the thickness of hair, punch size and skin tone, some FUE dotting in the donor area may be fairly visible under bright light.

It took about 18 days for my donor area to look completely normal again and my hair density is around 80 hairs/cm2.

Healing is fast with FUE for the donor area, some guys heal naturally faster then others. Following post op in important and I think a good diet will also be a friend with respect to healing. I have always been back at work at 2 weeks post op and I mean also before working in the industry.

It will be better if you can give some more specifics about yourself - age, race, skin and hair color etc. As others have said before, skin redness in the recipient can be a giveaway in some races.

It would appear that Ten days is the optimal time period for recovery - what complications may occur if any ?

I`m 38 years of age with Red hair and Pale complexion.

By all means, you may be able to hide all traces of any work done in 10 days if you're prepared to allow the hair to grow to grade 3+, but you must be prepared to face the fact that you might not be able to. I don't want to be the party pooper but the visibility of FUE dots 10+ days post op is a distinct possibility despite what optimists will say.

If it bothers you that much, you could always call in sick that week and watch Loose Women!

Certainly by the following week you'll be absolutely fine bar a little redness in the recipient.

Ten days is around the normal time imo but some like myself took longer.

I`m going to put this on the back burner until late next year when I`m able to extend a holiday period, many thanks for all your thoughts on this subject.

That's possibly a good idea if being 'found out' is an issue for you, for a number of reasons:

1. Recovery will be the only thing on your mind, not stressing over what people will think when you get back to work.
2. It'll give you time to grow your hair in the donor (again, you'll need to grow it to around a grade 3+ in order to hide those little dots).
3. You'll have saved more money by then!
4. You'll have more time to consider and reconsider if HT is the right choice is for you. Whilst you've stumbled on this path for a reason, you may feel that you're happy to proceed on meds alone by next year. On the other hand, if in a years' time you feel that you still want HT, you can be confident that this is 100% the right choice for you as you've had a loooong time to think about it.

I had almost 3000 FUE done and was back to work on the 11th day and all redness/ swelling was completely gone. By the 7th day my donor area was long enough cover the scars. I have above average donor density which likely helped conceal the scars and I was taking MSM.

10 days would be suffient though in most cases I would of thought.
