At the age of 36 I finally plucked up the courage to do something about my hair. I have had a receeding hairline since the age of 19 and despite having thick hair was starting to get to the shave or act stage. I have a thin crown and hope to hang on to this by using Minoxidil and PRP. Propecia is not currently on my list of things I want to explore mainly due to a fear of sides and being a new father with another baby planned.
The real reason for writing this review is to hopefully help others in the UK make the correct decision when choosing a reputable clinic. Over the last 2 years I have met with a number of patient advisors and surgeons and I am delighted that I waited until I spoke with the guys at TMC. During my initial consultation in April David Anderson and Dr Edward Ball were professional and informative without being pushy and "salesy". They were open with me regarding my hair choices and when I left the room I was confident that I was in very safe hands.
My operation was a little over 2 weeks ago and after the initial first week of discomfort due to some swelling, I now almost forget that I have had anything done. The only exception being that my mother said I look like an escaped convict with the shaved head! Three days after the procedure the donor area was totally healed and you could not have guessed I had any surgery if looking at me from behind.
The day itself was like being the car in an F1 pit lane. The whole team from Dr Ball, Janna, Karen and the rest of the technicians are friendly, professional and made me calm throughout the day. Everyone knows their job and they do these jobs with skill and precision. I was extremely nervous when I arrived but after a chat with Dr Ball I was calm and excited to finally get the procedure underway. He designed a hairline for me that will look mature and suit me well for the next 15-20 years rather than attempting to give me a hairline of a 19yr old that would look ridiculous if I don't manage to hang on to the crown.
I had a total of 1,779 grafts (was booked in for 1700 and Dr Ball did not charge me for the additional 79 grafts). 415 single grafts. 975 2 hair grafts and 389 3 hair grafts with 3,532 total hairs.
The level of care throughout the day was exceptional. A couple of the initial anaesthetic injections were a little painful but only 4/10 in intensity. I watched Netflix for a couple of hours and lunch was provided. The aftercare provided is also top notch. Janna is available on WhatsApp to look at any pictures or answer any questions and there is a dedicated care line that you can also ring. A member of the team contacted me the day after, the week after by phone and email to check on my progress and to update me on what I should be expecting to see over the coming days.
I really can't praise the whole team enough. If you are considering having an HT and want an honest appraisal of the situation on the top of your head go and see the guys at The Maitland Clinic. Dr Ball's passion, ethical practice and dedication to giving you the best possible result he can will not make you regret your decision. I will update this post with my pictures and results. The pictures posted are from the first week post op. Cheers for reading.
