Straight after surgery ( in the period when you are waiting for the shed) is it deemed a good sign that the freshly implanted hairs grow prior to shedding ?
Does this give any indication as to future results ?

No it won't give any indication of future results. Some patients will experience grafts growing for an extended period of time before shedding which may result in the new growth cycle being put back slightly causing later than anticipated growth.

It will depend on how long after surgery the hairs continue to grow before shedding.

I don't believe it'll matter much in the long run if the transplanted hairs grow a little before shedding. The important part is the end result when you're at 12 months post op. Some patients experience early growth and some slower than average growth but the end result is what anyone remembers.
