HI guys, I'm considering getting a hair transplant and looking for some advice, I'm off work for six weeks to get the procdure done however I'm in two minds whether to get the hole procedure done or just a little that I can hide! I'm concerned about people in my job noticing as I work in a corporate environment with lots of people. I'm a nw3 anyone who has been through the procedure who was in the same boat as me and can give some advice?
Many thanks

What area are you wanting the work performed? If it's your hair line you could leave your hair longer and comb it forward. Are you opting for FUE or Strip? How many grafts are you thinking of? If you could post a picture showing the area a better opinion can be given.

It's going to be tough to conceal work in that area, maybe keep your hair really short and say any redness is sunburn or a skin condition.

I agree that it is difficult to conceal if the hair is not long enough to comb forward. However, there are ways to decrease the appearance of the recipient zone. Since you are taking a full six weeks away from work you are in a good position to conceal the evidence:)

1. Keep growing your hair longer. The longer it is the more you can conceal the work performed by combing the hair forward. This is if you have FUSS (strip). If you have FUE then the opposite applies. Allow your hair to grow longer then shave your head for the procedure. Once the procedure is over keep your hair buzzed till you return to work and for the first month or two after your return. Once your new hair starts to grow then you can allow the rest of your hair to grow as well.

2. Visit a tanning bed facility to build up the pigment in your skin before surgery. Darker skin hides recipient trauma (redness) much better than pale skin.

3. Be sure to eat well and take a quality multi-vitamin daily for a few weeks before your procedure. This helps you to be as healthy as possible which means faster healing.

4. Drink lots of water leading up to surgery. Being well hydrated allows the skin to recover faster.

5. Purchase pure aloe liquid (not lotion) as applying this to the recipient zone nightly several days after surgery can also help to dissipate the redness.

If you have your surgery near the beginning of your time off you should be in good position that prevents anyone from seeing obvious signs of hair restoration surgery.

Thank you kindly for your reply!
Just one question I originally thought I would keep it short and let all the hair grow together by shaving it with a clippers however I have been told that using a clippers before 6 months may change the angle of the hair!

Do you know if this is true?

I don't think clipping your hair makes any difference at all mate. I've clipped my hair on and off - through 3 procedures and have not noticed any difference when it grows out. I would agree with a previous comment to let your hair grow long and then shave just prior to the procedure - if having FUE. 6 weeks is a long time and I would expect the recipient area to have completely healed within that time. I used aloe vera after my last procedure, and had very little redness after 10-12 days.

Thanks northern lad! Appreciate the reply! I work in a professional environment where I would rather not fill people's mouths to be honest with regard to my life! I suppose it something I need to get over myself!

Clipping your hair should make no difference as the grafts are secured after a week. You may have redness to contend with which can be passed off as Sunburn or maybe allergic reaction to shampoo .
