Has there been any change to my hair in 10+ years?

Hello,

I posted on here 12 years ago regarding an area on my hair which appeared to be thinner, as per the below. Unable to access the old account as the email is no longer accessible;

Original user thread

I am now 32, and still have a full head of hair, but the “thinner” area I was asking about then still bothers me. I was told on another forum it was a parting, or that it is just the shape of my crown, but - whether my barbers have been cutting my hair shorter or something, I don’t know - but I’m finding it difficult to brush my hair over that particular bit. Unless I’m imagining it due to my worries.

This is the initial picture from 2011;

I’ve collated some pictures of my crown from the past 10+ years to see if there’s any difference.

This is 2022 / 2023. The circled green image is what started me worrying about it last year;

This is the “thinner” area, or parting in 2018. It’s also visible in the above from 2013 / 2016.

Reason I’m asking is, mid last year, Christmas and a couple of weeks ago, 4 different colleagues said I had a bald spot - I sit under a fluorescent light in work and my scalp is still inflamed - but comments made me worry. I have Finasteride, though I’ve never taken it. Bought it after the first comment was made.

Anyway, I’ve gone on a bit. Can you see if there’s any change at all? Any thinning or loss? Or no change?

Apologies for the vast amount of images.

Hi Marty. I can switch your new email to your original account if you want. Otherwise, just use this one.
Looking at your pictures I would say you have minimal to zero loss. The crown parting and possibly just the time of year (hair shed) is probably why it may have looked thinner to your colleagues.
The only way to truly find out would be an in person consultation to check for miniaturisation.

I doesn’t look like it. All photos are with different length hair and slightly different angles and lighting.

It goes for the people at work that comment if someone is above you under a harsh bright LED that offices use now it shall look weaker but so should theirs and everyone elses.

Put this way even if you have it’s only slight and the next ten years should see it randomly take off so you shouldn’t really have much to worry about anyway there

Thanks, I’ll just stick with this account. Haven’t used that other online name in years.

Appreciate your reply. I’ve asked family who have said they can’t see any change, but I think the parting area, whether I’m noticing it more then I used to as I didn’t check that area as much, that’s what bothers me because crowns, to me, are normally just a small whorl, not an L shape. Plus I’m always checking under my bathroom light, directly under.

I think what doesn’t help us the fact my crown isn’t just a small circular area and it goes into the middle of my head so doesn’t look great. My concern has been whether it’s changed or become more prominent. Sometimes I wonder whether I should be parting my hair in that area, because right now my hair is parting in like three areas trying to brush over the area. Thanks for your reply. Encouraging to read that it hasn’t changed, but I’m still conscious about it.
