Hi all,
My hair has thinned out a lot lately; but I have had hair loss issues for awhile. I was told I have moderate to extreme eczema, telogen effluvium, and andregenic alopecia. I was given some advice, which I will get into in the next sentence, but right now I am shedding a decent amount of hair. It is consistent. And I have one chunk of hair that has four hairs coming out of it. I have talked to the dermatologist about this (not this particular incident), but one similiar. She said that it is telogen effluvium and I have no control over it coming out. Is there something I can do to slow down the loss?
Here is what she told me to do: Put shampoo on a dry scalp with wet fingers (ketonazole 2%, one with salicyclic acid, and selsum blue or head and shoulders), follow with conditioner. She said to wash my hair as often as I can and take .625 g of minoxidil daily. The dermatologist got emotional when I told her I had tried using the minoxidil in the foam form. The dermatologist said it would make things worse. I don't want to become dependent on minoxidil. My plan was to use the foam for a month; because I couldn't become dependent on it. I talked to a pharmacist that thought it would be ok to use the foam too if I wanted to. mIt stopped an extreme hair loss for me last month. The dermalogist insists the foam doesn't work that fast; and it take 3 months to see any benefits at all. Does anyone here think the foam is safe to use?
