How many grafts are required to create a new haiine on a Norwood 4? Is there an average that is safe to use without diminishing your donor supply?

Let's clarify your question. A NW 4 means that the frontal zone, not just the hairline is gone and a small patch at the crown as well. Are you asking how many grafts are needed to redbuild the front? The general rule of thumb is that you'll need about 1000 grafts per NW level to achieve a good result but the reality is that this can swing plus or minus from patient to patient. With FUE you can get away with fewer grafts because follicular units with higher numbers of hairs can be targeted to get better coverage so the the procedure can also factor in to the equation.

Thanks For the reply Joe. 1000 grafts per Norwood level makes it easier to estimate an approximate amount of grafts I'll need. I'm thinking concentrate on the front with 2500 - 3000 grafts leaving the crown as is for now. I can always have a second procedure to address the crown in the future.

Glad to help, and yes, a NW4 usually can do with about 3000 for the frontal zone so that is a good general number to count on. Good luck with your research.
