How Many Grafts do I need?

Hi Guys,I am pretty much all geared up to go ahead with an FUE treatment and am now in the process of shortlisting doctors. I would also appreciate some advice on how many grafts do you guys think I may need to achieve my objective based on the attached pics. I know its hard to give an accurate judgement, simply based on pictures, but it would certainly allow me to do some budgeting. My aim is to pretty much cover get back a "normal head" of hair, i.e. to cover the hair loss in my crown, temples and the area between the crown and temples.both the crown area as well as the temples area

I would also like to know your opinion on my Norwood classification. I feel I am a 4, but would appreciate some feedback on this. I also wonder, if finax & minoxidil would be any good for me at this stage (I have used both of these at various stages in the last 4 years but irregularly). Minoxidil seems to give me breathing difficulties though.

Your pics are not showing. Beofre you get some advice from people of here whom have had a HT. It would be prudent to include your age, family history of balding, years you have been balding etc.

Finasteride could stabilise your loss and also produce some regrowth. It would be advisable to be on Finasteride for at least 18months prior to a HT procedure. Some unfortunate people go from a NW4 to a NW6 in 18months, you want to make sure you are not one of them before embarking on your plans for a HT especially if you are hoping to have a low hairline.

Hi Guys,

Please note further info below:

Age: 28
Family History: Father has perfectly thick hair even at 60+. Mother has fairly light hair. Maternal uncles did face hair loss but at a much later age than me. Maternal grandmather had hair loss very late as well, so I seem to be breaking all family records in terms of hair loss.

I started losing hair at around 20 and since then its been a gradual ongoing process.

Finasteride: I have taken finax on and off for the last 12 months or so, but I cannot wait for the FUE any longer, so I really want to go ahead on asap basis.

Welcome to the forum dude, was the reason for the on and off due to sides or just the lack of regrowth and frustration?........ i only ask because as your 28 you could do with stabilizing your loss first with meds and imo you will probably need to commit to these after the surgery as well. Do you think you would be able to do this?

Hi Guys,
Reason for not being consistent with the meds to be very honest was just lack of discipline. I would get really busy with work at times and lose focus. But I didnt really see any side-effects with Finax. But I certainly intend to fix this now.

But with Minox, I certainly get breathing issues (which I read is a known side-effect), so I am off Minox for now.

If you do intend torestart using Finasteride. Take monthly pictures. Its not easy to notice improvements. I only knew I was responding well to Finasteride because close friends commented my hair looked thicker after 6 months usage. I would say my results peaked after 2yrs. I have been on it now for well over 10years and I have more hair now than what I did have pre treatment.Just a couple of tips whilst you are researching your options. Dying your hair a darker shade could make it appear thicker. Using a concealor (only a small amount) will dramatically create a full head of hair look.

I roughly estimate that you need to cover around 60 cm2 area which is totally bald and another 60 cm2 that is covered with some of your own hairs, so I believe that you will need around 3.500-3.700 grafts for hairline, zone a, b and c as you already have many hairs in between. This way you will achieve a density of 40-45 grafts per cm2. I agree that it is very important to continue with meds so as to keep your own hair and avoid a second session. However, I think that you might also have to think to use a smaller amount of grafts (about 2500 grafts) because you are quite young and you don €™t know exactly how your MPB will evolve in the following years. I assure you that even with this amount of grafts you will have a very good result.

I think 3500 to 4000 grafts are sufficient to treat the baldness through hair transplantation. Front hairline is to set also and hair tinning is quite noticeable in the image.
