Hi folks it's been quite a while since I've posted but just wanted to let you know about my latest HT.
This was number five for me but my first procedure with The Maitland Clinic (my previous four HT strip surgeries were with SMG) and it was also my first FUE.As my donor supply has never been great and after four strip procedures I felt I've gone as far as I can with FUT and that FUE now gave me the best options.
I met with Janna earlier in the year for a consultation and we agreed a plan to look for around a total of 500 grafts from the back of head and from the beard area.
I'm now a couple of weeks post op and had a really fantastic experience. Dr Ball is a great guy with a brilliant patient manner and we spent quite a bit of time talking through what I was hoping for and what was possible. Given my poor donor supply at the back it was so nice to hear that I had areas at the sides he said were really encouraging - turns out they were too.
So the plan we went for was to concentrate on thickening the front third area (with a few grafts at the side partings just to help. Dr Ball didn't change the shape of the existing SMG hairline but worked just behind it using single, then double, then group hairs the further in and back we went and using the beard hairs (which we didn't need so many of in the end) furthest in.
The team at The Maitland Clinic couldn't have been better or more caring. Long hair FUE is obviously challenging and time consuming to do well but I was lucky enough to have Dr Ball for the surgery, then all hairs placed by Janna - not forgetting lldi who carefully prepared the grafts as well helping with many other parts of the procedure.
Like all HTs it's a long day in the chair but all the care and attention that was taken was greatly appreciated - I couldn't have asked for more. At five ops now I'm maybe almost a 'veteran' now and can say this was one of the best experiences I've had - and given I've been to SMG that hopefully says a lot.
I'll ask Janna if she will post some more specific details re hair counts and procedure photos so you can see the challenges involved but also the promising end of op pics.

P.S. The beard area donor had an amazing recovery time for me - with 2-3 days it was almost totally away.
