Yes getting a little off topic but it is all related as some point.

HT what is the deal with this patient. It looks like all the extractions were performed on only one side. Just from a patient's point of view their does not seem to be any reasonable explanation for such a poor extraction pattern.
Of course shock loss is always a possibility regardless and patients should be made aware of it.

I am thinking is this really a shock loss? It seems that this was not his first extraction (in any case he had a low density at the donor area right from the start of this extraction) and he lost hairs from only the right side of the scalp. So I am wondering if he has a history of alopecia areata which may get flared due to the extended in total extraction-skin trauma.


Other factors like great transection ratio or problematic blood circulation (due to heavy smoking perhaps), may lead to hair loss.


Personally I do not think that this appearence is a kind of shock loss like the one seen in the recipient area.

It was shockloss. He came to the office that I was working for in 2007 and was diagnosed by a physician.

Hopefully his hair grew back or he was able to have some grafts placed back, maybe via BHT.

I feel so much for this guy. I have dug around in my emails and have tried to see what happened to him. I don't think this would be a simple grafts placed back or a BHT. I think this was more than that. ::;mb
