Man Utd fan's failed hair transplant - Daily Mail

So I'm finally plucking up the courage to get a hair transplant and I've opted for the Cosmedica surgery in Istanbul. I've been booked in for November 17th. I've been reading through all the reviews and experiences that people have kindly wrote on here about the clinic which has helped big time! This could well be Cosmedica or another similar surgery. But coming across a story like this makes me a little bit more nervous!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3313746/I-wanted-hair-like-Wayne-Rooney-ended-Bobby-Charlton-style-comb-Manchester-United-fan-went-Turkey-cheap-hair-transplant-left-horrified-result.html

What's everyone's take on this? Just a bad procedure or Just problems with the patient himself? Feedback would be much appreciated! ;)

Cheers,
Luke

Its an interesting story, but i dont think this was the failure it was made out to be...would i have expexted more for 3000 grafts ?...yes maybe, but this guys expectations were totaly unrealistic. He has a big area to cover, and 3000 grafts would of been nowhere near enough. His hair loss is very advanced, he could also very well be a nw6 or 7.

He obviously read what rooney had and believed could get the same, forgetting rooney had more hair than him to begin with.

I also dont understand how he could be happy at 7 months, yet after a year not be happy. He had no hair from the start, so i dont see how he could of lost more.

Regarding rooney, he looked better after his first op than he does now after the second in my opinion. He has obviously lost more hair since, and you caan see a thinningp.pattern starting to develop at the back now aswell...he is using a ton of concealer and he is obviously tapped out of donor after two fue ops....by the time he is 35 he is going to look very odd in my opinion. He should of waited .

Seems to be a rather desperate attempt by someone to discredit the Turkish HT market. Let's examine the case.

1. He's a NW7.
2. He wanted to look like Wayne Rooney.
3. He got 3000 grafts.
4. He was happy at ten months.
5. He's unhappy at fourteen months.
6. He's being discussed on about a dozen UK tabloids.
7. The President of the BAHRS is talking about the lower standards in Turkey.

Why was he happy at ten months? Did he look like Wayne Rooney at ten months?
Why is he unhappy at fourteen months? Does he suddenly NOT look like Wayne Rooney?
If he is indeed losing more hair now how can this be attributed to surgery? Can the president of the BAHRS explain how hairs can grow great at ten months and through some fault of the surgery they fall out at fourteen months? Poppycock!

Why was the President of the BAHRS involved in this at all? Did the original author of this article reach out to the BAHRS to get a comment on this particular case? If so, how does a "lower standard" like that supposedly found in Turkey reflect on the math that doesn't support this patient's expectations?
This case could have easily been in the UK or any other country on the planet and the standards, for better or for worse, would not have made a difference. NW7 + 3000 grafts does not equal Wayne Rooney.

My opinion is that this is an orchestrated fluff piece. How did The Guardian or The Mirror get wind of this patient? Did he contact one of them to complain? I highly doubt it. I find this kind of story to be distasteful because it takes the expectations out of the equation and places the blame solely on the region which the patient traveled to for his surgery. Fact is, we've all seen cases from Canada, The US and the UK as well as Europe that have had much worse outcomes so to lay this at the feet of Turkey just because it is Turkey is out of financial desperation, not out of concern for ethics and proper standards. Fact is, this very website has examples of much worse cases than this, most of which were performed in the UK.

I agree that there are a lot of holes in this story.... While his hair line is a little uneven, he certainly doesn't have a comb-over like Bobby Charlton to the point that his friends are teasing him about it. He was almost all bald, did he get teased before? It would be interesting to find out how the story got started.

I actually thought it was a good result considering his starting point 🙈

Hi Janna,

Yeah, that is what has always intrigued me about these kinds of stories. I mean, who contacts who and for what reason? What is the motivation? And then for the paper to reach out to the president of the BAHRS and for him to make a comment that doesn't really have relevance to what I see in the photos is bizarre.

Hairhunter,
I did too. Which begs the question even more, what was the incentive for all of this? None of it makes sense.

I don't see this guys hair transplant as a failure either, all I see is he was very unrealistic in his expectations due to not being educated enough on hair transplants.

Also you really need to look at his donor area and what his donor hair is like. Just from the pics I can see that he has thin hair all over. Not everyone is a candidate for a hair transplant and that's what the story should have focused on the fact that they did it anyway. It is sad because we all know what it feels like to what a cure for baldness and then to have reality that it will not work for you. However that being said it is an improvement from what he had and that's what he should try to be happy about.
