Minoxidil and Libido

Hi everyone,

I had my HT eight months ago. I'm delighted with the results so far but am concerned about loss of libido.

I'm down to one finasteride tablet per week (half on Monday and half on Friday) and am currently taking a break from Minoxidil but plan to start again soon.

It would be great if an expert or fellow HT patient could tell me:

1. How much does Minoxidil contribute to libido loss?
2. Are there any forms of minoxidil which have less impact on the libido?

Thanks, Gareth

What I do not understand is that for over 2 years now Liquid finasteride has been available (or liquid dutasteride ). In reality even much longer, but it was not really studied.

Taking a pill will spread into all parts of the body, whereas adding a lotion to the scalp will remain locally with no or virtually no systemic absorbtion. This has been discussed many times during the last FUE Europe meetings (and maybe other meetings as well).
So, why is it that it seems that drs. are slow to catch on?

I mean, we started out full time FUE in 2003 and it took nearly 10 years before drs. starting adapting this more patient friendly treatment.

Sorry for the rant, but liquid hair loss medication has been around now for several years. It has been demonstrated to work scientifically by many drs.

Some out there need to wake up.

ps : I don't think minoxidil is related to libido loss, but it has some other possible sides like headache.

Thanks for the input guys. Does anyone know any topical finasteride (or topical minoxidil and finasteride combos) that are available in the UK?

Any hair transplant dr. (or any dr. for that part) can make you a prescribtion for topical solutions.

In most countries you need a prescrebtion since minoxidil 5 percent and finastiride/dutasteride are considered medications.

However, not all pharmasist will know how to prepare the lotion correctly.
If I where you I would focus and try to find a pharmacy that has experience with this kind of lotions first and than go to a dr. to have the paperwork done for you.

BTW, if you want to find out wether or not minoxidil - finasteride - dutuasteride - and many other molecules will work for you or not is easily detected by the newest hair DNA tests.
Some guys waist money and hair for many years, using something that CAN not work in their body.
