natural alternative to finasteride

somebody told me about this a few months ago. can anybody tell me what its called, whether it works and where to find it in the UK.
is it a pill or topical and does it have the same side-effects as finasteride?

I purchased 600 Saw Palmerro capsules to try out, I've had a slight ache in my groin area the past two days. I'm not sure if this is a side effect or just coincincidence, will stick with the capsules for another week or two depending on how I feel.
