Need some wisdom FUT or FUE in Dec.

So I've been back and forth on my HT for months now. I am an NW5 AND was leaning toward FUT, primarily because in my face to face consults they said I can get probably get somewhere between FUT (3800 to 4200).
Unfortunately, I haven't had been able to have any face to face consults with any FUE dr's because the best are overseas (except maybe 2 in the US). But thru pictures, I've been told anywhere from 3000 to 3500 by Erdogan and Doganay.
So what to do, go for FUT now and get as much as I can on my first pass, then go back a year later for FUE to finish off crown? But, then how much FUE can i really get with a FUT scar? (Also in my job i do a lot of presenting and a scar usually takes a couple months to hide)
Or
Do I get a FUE with someone like Dr Hakan Doganay or Dr Erdogan and get maybe 3500 G(I have no beard hair and not enough chest hair) and then go back a year later and hope I can get another 1500 for crown? But, not have s scar and recover quicker....
This is crazy hard to decide.

If you are OK with FUT and you want to maximize the amount of transplants, why don't you consider combining FUT and FUE in a single Session?
This could get you in the range of 5000 grafts or more in a single treatment.

I think combo sessions increase the odds of shock loss and put extra strain on the body (and scalp) while trying to recover - Also, a shaved head w/ stitches across the back really isn't something I want to deal with this - I'm sure many people benefit from them but I have ruled a combo session out.

At some point you may want to shave your head down the line and if your thinking about not liking the look of stitches straight after surgery then you probably won't like the fact you have a scar either in months/years to come. How do you have your hair now is it short or long?

Personally i have had both and can see the benefits in both procedures, however if i could do it again i would still have FUT followed by FUE to maximise the amount of grafts i could get because my loss was stable but quite advanced.


What i will say is though if your not sure at the minute then your probably not ready yet to take a plunge and need to have more consults with clinics dude.

My hair is average length, so not really short, I don't think I'd ever wear it to short. Thanks for replying. Food for thought, indeed.

Firstly you have to be happy with the decision you make, and understand the pros and cons to each technique. Your choice will effect your life, hopefully in a very positive way, and as your scalp is virgin you are in the best position right now to gain the maximum grafts from your first procedure.

Being a higher NW scale it is going to be important you set out your goals now, for example hair line placement and coverage you want to achieve, either in one procedure or over multiple, bearing in mind the graft numbers reduce after the first procedure. Aspects such as timing in your life, if you opt for smaller procedures you have to resign yourself to more work later, more money probably and more time spent gaining your goal.

Also you have to take into account your donor hair characteristics, density of hair in the donor, fine, coarse hair etc, all these factors will play an important role in deciding the best technique for you.

As said, both techniques have pros and cons, so it ´s important the decision is based on fact and not a "style" choice if you like. It ´s only you that live with the result you achieve so important you feel happy and in command of the important facts.

I think BN sums up perfectly my feelings as well. Stable quite advanced hairloss but I also factored in my age (47 at the time). I basically thought 'I've maybe got another 20 years on the planet if I'm lucky, so why not.

So I'm 12 days out from an FUE after a FUT last year and still think I made the right choice.

I'm walking around without head covering btw, having had my head shaved 12 days ago. You can see something but it's not too bad.

Dear wolfsatplay,

If you feel that scar might be a problem for you at any time, then FUE is the only choise. You must have in mind that in high norwoods one hair transplant is usually not enough and so you may have to consider a more natural approach.

I am also considering both treatments, it's annoying me though because i cannot seem to make a decision on which to go for. Have you made your decision and decided whether to opt for FUE or FUT Wolf?

FUE is the best treatment for hair transplantation as it does not leave any scar for what you are fearing of. Manual FUE procedures are cheaper than robotic procedures. Moreover there is no big difference between the cost of a FUT and FUE procedure.
