New and intrested in HT

Hi everyone im from the uk and was really thinkin of HT as have exhausted propecia and minoxadil, now im not sure if i would be a candidate for HT as the sides of my hair is thinner than than back of doner area(but the sides are normally??)

so i was thinkin to go for a free consultation with Dr. Richard Rogers, rogersclinic.co.uk and see what he says(not that i would go with him) I would def travel abroad to somebody good(as have read up on peoples posts etc).

Now how do people who travel to docs in us know if there a good candidate for HT without the surgeon seeing if your a good candidate??


Oh btw any other London based surgeons i can go to, to check out if doner area is good?

Rogers has a pretty bad reputation from what i have read i wouldn ´t even bother going for a consultation. If i were you i would look into going to Brussels , easy to get to from London and if your serious about getting a H.T pop over there for a consultation first and see where you stand.

Personally I would suggest you consult directly with doctors you intend to short list, whoever they are, when I was researching I talked with a few different docs in person, all had different approaches and ideas, graft numbers required etc; so you could come undone if you assume one doctor has the same approach as another.

Yeh i have seen footage on the brussels patients on the forum not bad..

Sl how would i meet the surgeons im intrested in as i live in the UK and there in the US, do people just normally send there pics and get info that way??

I would firstly love to know if i was a good cancidate as have pretty fine straight hair.

You need to go to the surgeons location to meet them, unless you want to wait until they are holding meetings in the UK.

Well send photos to your chosen docs and see what they say I think is the best start. If you wish to meet them in person then as Sparky says the options are you go there or they come to the UK.

Most clinics will be able to give a good idea of your candidacy via photos initially, depending upon your age, goals, medication and technique you wish to undertake.

The most important thing to do is to take your time.

When you have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 doctors that you like contact their former patients - pretty easy to do in most cases via this forum and others like it.

Meet up with them if possible especially if you haven't seen a hair transplant in the flesh, though just having a conversation with them is enormously useful too.

It is important to try and make contact with patients that the clinic hasn't put you in touch with as even the worst clinic will have a few happy patients.

Hi Shipwrecked and welcome to the forum. You should draw up a shortlist of clinic that you are considering and take some very clear photos from all angles, these photos need to be candid to show your hairloss as best as possible, online consults are pretty accurate but are only as good as the photos you send. Send the photos to all the docs you are considering and see what advice is offered, of course if you can consult with doctors in person then great but not always possible or necessary.

If distance is a factor you can ask many questions by email or pick up the phone and arrange a telephone conversation with the doctors.

Dont see the point in consulting with a doctor that you`ve decided not to go to already before meeting him or his patients.

A tad selfish and unfair on the doc.

However if you do consult with him and maybe meet some of his patients you may change your opinion of him.

Anyway,you`ve been given some good advice from the forum members,maybe post your pictures on here with your face blocked out to obtain more opinions etc.

Hi thanks to all for your informative feedback im going to start looking.

Question do they have conventions where all the top HT surgeons visit countrys(ie US surgeons visit Europe once a year??) as alot of you have met and talked to many surgeons before opting who to go with.

Could you advise me on the best approach?

Never heard of any such convention, 999 times out of 1000 you will have to visit the surgeon, surgeons are busy people, I went to visit Dr Bisanga in Brussels and it was fine with me to do that, 2 hours on the train from London, no big deal.

I know about the ISHRS, Don't think patients can attend though can they?

They can usually contact the doctors and arrange to meet them outside the conference area.
