Pitting!

Here is a picture we took today after a punch out procedure of a patient's hairline. This is a blown up view of a pitted graft. This one was visible to the naked eye.

Pitted grafts typically are created when a technician places a graft too deeply (burying the graft) into the scalp. The result during the healing process in an inward tension placed upon the shaft of the hair.

What is compelling about this particular patient... is that the procedure was completed not even a year ago.

Very informative , thanks for the picture , is the pitting in the picture the `crater` effect, around the follicle were the tissue is circular, and slightly lighter in colour ?

Have you any pictures showing what it looked like before removal ? also what size punch was used to extract it , anychance of naming the doc or tech responsible ? ( to avoid !)


Can the graft ( follicle ) be used again if the surrounding tissue is trimmed down ?

Yes the pitting effect is the crater surrounding the follicle.

The punch size for extracting pits or old school plugs varies from 0.8mm,0.9mm,1.0mm, 1.5mm and 2.0mm(requires sutures 2.0mm)).

I do not know the exact doctors name that did this work but it was somewhere here in Minnesota.

And yes the follicles from extracted pits or plugs are trimmed down and re-used.
