Quit cold turkey Rogaine after 3 weeks use shedding awful

I quit minoxidil a month ago and I am going through the shed. I only used it for about three weeks. I stopped becuase I began reading about all the awful things it can do. I started it becuase I had a little thinning on the top of my head. I regret ever starting it and wish I had done my research. Since I have stopped my hair has gotten worse, it is way thinner than is was before and also it has made one side of my head show the scalp more. How long will this awful shed last, will the hairs I lost grow back and how long will it take? I am kinda freaking out about all this, any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

This is why I'm telling the scaremongers to stop spreading nonsense about treatments. Minoxidil doesn't do "awful things". I've been on it for 4 years now and the data available shows that it's very safe.

My advice would be to get back on it as soon as possible and to stop reading the side-effects forums. What a shame that people like you who had no side-effect at all have to suffer because of what's written on the forums. No minoxidil won't give you wrinkles, rings under the eyes or whatever. If you chose not to go back on it, your hair will return to normal in about 3 to 6 months. But know that you can't afford to put treatments like this aside as we don't have that many for the moment.

Thanks for you input. It is scary reading what all these forums say, I didn't have that much balding when I started and probably didn't need to start rogaine for a long time. Im just worried that the massive shed and hair loss that has occured will not grow back. When you say return back to normal do you mean that is when the shedding will stop or that is when my hair will be grown back? Thanks!

It has been shown before in studies, "your hair will return to normal" means that you will look as if you never touched the minoxidil. Your balding will continue at its normal rate of course.

I concur with Fredthebelgian, the success stories far outweigh the ones who claim to suffer these sides, you should have stuck to it as it takes at least six months to determine if it's working.

I agree too, if you search the Internet you can find something that terrifies you about any subject if you look hard enough.......my advice is to give it another shot dude.

I responded really well to Rogaine when i started using it. After 6weeks usage, i had the shed from hell. But 4months later i had some pretty amazing regrowth. You just have to ride the shedding out and if you ever stop using the product all hair that was regrown or maintained by Rogaine will fall out within 16weeks(approx).
