Receding Hairline, Advice on possible hair transplant options

Hi,

So over the last few years I have noticed my hair line receding which didn't affect me personally, however the last 18 months my hair started to become more thin and I've lost quite a lot of volume. Last year I noticed I was loosing a lot of hair every time I would comb my hair or have a shower, I used regain for men which mad some slight change but nothing impactful. The past 6 months I have noticed a huge change to may hair line and its become quite unmanageable.

Male pattern baldness is quite common in my family and there is clear signs from both sides of my family. It is something that I have accepted and it may not be something that I could stop in the long term.

I'm currently doing some research on getting a hair transplant and I'm a lot more certain about going down this path. I'm just looking for advice on what options are out there and what may be the best option to take, also possibly how many graft should I be looking at.

I have attached some photos to show my current hairline. Also one with wet hair to show the thinning up top.

Propecia - Minoxidil 6 months prior to a hair restoration surgery. Stabilize, then consider 2500 grafts for the frontal half, add another 500 if you want coverage to the vertex. Surgical options, FUE or FUT depending on your preference.

After reading your latest thread I would agree with Techno1 that you should stabilise your diffuse thinning. You could see some decent improvement with your hair.
Did the doctor from your consult speak to you about the hair loss meds?

I think you should follow your surgeon's prescribed medicine that would be good for you to get best results .

Hello @JSultani, if I missed apologies. But how old are you? This can be important for a few reasons. As it may affect how active your hair loss is. Also, the likelihood of it starting to slow. All to the importance of starting a hair loss treatment. You mentioned hair loss in your family, on average what are the stages of hair loss, are many suffering from advanced hair loss for example? Or do they mainly keep mild hair coverage?

I’m 31 currently, most of my uncles who are 40+ are in Norwood 5 also most of my cousins who are a similar age also have similar hair loss patterns like mine. I’ve been looking at trying to get oral Minoxidil as I find the other solutions a bit of a pain applying to ointments.

I’m finding it hard to find something suitable.

Has anyone tried this

OP, I had a very similar pattern of loss to yours starting in my mid 20s, though not quite as aggressive. Luckily I hopped on finasteride pretty quickly and it put a stop to any further recession. Minoxidil didn't do all that much for me. In the meantime, whilst stabilising your losses be sure to do plenty of research into what surgeon you would like to go with. Look for patient journeys as opposed to results posted by the clinics themselves. And look for consistency. Consistent good results over years, are far more important than the odd knockout result that might catch your eye. In my opinion.

U hairline loss is more so on one side
Than other its really common
Personally i would get on meds ie 1mg finesteride for 1yr to stabilise ur loss
Topical products are just a pain to apply daily and most people stop using so lose what they gained
Regards to hair transplant i would have a high mature hairline design

I’m currently looking to obtain oral Minoxidil but seeming hard to come by. I found a website called manual.co they sell three months supply of tablets for £72, has anyone used this site by any chance. The dosage is 2.5mg per tablet I’m wondering how does that compare to Regain foam which has 50mg/g

Yes I managed to get Minoxidil from manual .co, it worked out quite affordable for first time buyers. I plan on using this for a few months and seeing what results I get. I decided to cut my hair quite short, makes life easier and hopefully should make any improvements visible.

Sounds good. Take pictures in same lighting conditions to keep a good track of any improvements.
Good luck with it.

Wanted to give an update on my progress, I have been taking finasteride tablets for more than a year and I found this to be very effective. Before I took this medication I found myself loosing a lot of hair every time I had a shower or combed my hair, after taking it for a few months I stopped loosing hair although it should be said my hair line has gradually receded but most of this damage was done before the meds.

In particular the top of my head had shed a lot of hair and the scalp was visible in certain conditions. I've since taken oral minoxidil for about 5 months and that too has made a difference, in particular to the volume of my hair. My front hair line was very thin but now the front section (the small patch of hair what remains of my actual hair line) of my hair is probably 25-40% more full, although it's a shame that the surrounding areas have receded.

I've been using hair fibres whenever I go out, surprisingly a small bottle can last a long time if used carefully. The hair fibres make the most difference if I'm honest. It adds so much extra volume, provides coverage for areas where scalp is visible and can withstand for the whole day. One 20 pound bottle does last me several months.

I've come to the conclusion that I will have a hair transplant in the summer, I'm currently researching and getting quotes, will post on any future updates.
