Hi all, I'd really appreciate some advice... I'm just starting out my research into whether or not I go for HT. I've had two consultations, first with ziering (Hammersmith) and second with Transform (Fulham and Reading). Ziering pushed FUT, on the basis that they only difference between the two treatments was the scare from FUT. Transform very much went the other way and the surgeon I met pushed FUE.My view so far, is FUT seems good as it's cheaper and the scare doesn't bother me as I will grow my hair long enough to cover it. But it does seem most opt for FUE .It would be great to get anyone elses opinion on both treatments and the two surgerys I visited.

What is your hairloss pattern, also how many grafts were you quoted.

Always had a high hair line, but lost hair at the front over past 4 years. Also have a balding patch at the back and thinning on top down the centre. The surgeon for Transform puts me at a level 4/5.
He also recommended 6 months of drugs before surgery to see if thickening the hair would be enough.

So maybe 2500 grafts, both procedures are an option for you. I agree you should try the meds first, hopefully you don't get any sides and you respond well to them.

Who was the doctor at Transform.

Was it Dr Ball at Hammersmith.

The doctor at transform was Dr Tam and at ziering i didn't see a doctor just one of the consultants, but if I decide to go back to them I'll ask to see Dr ball.

I would say that there are some guys out there who have hair in the occipital zone from where a strip is harvested that is so incredibly thick and dark and at the same time they have hairs in the hair line area that are naturally thinner and lighter that they might not be good candidates for FUT for this very reason.

So sometimes it €™s simply more than just about a scar and a qualified and ethical doctor would know this or at least we would hope so. Same goes for the consultant and if the consultant does not know this he/she should move into another line of work as they do not understand the seriousness of the implications for the patient.
