Shaving head after FUE

Is there any reason why you can't completely shave your head 5/6 weeks after FUE? I mean with shavers with no grade clip on. I've been advised to only shave to a one and be careful.

I don't believe shaving with no guard will damage your grafts as they are under your skin permantly now, you may see some dots/scar tissue where the grafts are implanted. This may be why they say do a number one just to cover while the scalp fully heals.

I don't think a one would make all the hair look even. They were saying to not shave it at all until at least 4 weeks after.

Not sure about not shaving it to any guard until 4 weeks post op, maybe it's just being cautious and not wanting the scalp to risk being irritated which can cause inflammation and sometimes lead to infection or folliculitis.

I'm not really sure why. We tell our patients they can shave/cut their hair 10 days after surgery and do not put a limitation on the guard level.

As the others have mentioned, it shouldn't be an issue. Assuming your scalp is healing nicely, it should be totally safe to do. At 5/6 weeks post-op, the grafts have been secure for quite some time, so I guess the main concern would be not to irritate a potentially sensitive scalp. I'll be interested to see what their explanation is.

I've found that some surgeons simply tend to be overly cautious with these sorts of things. I remember seeing a post on a different forum a couple months ago where the surgeon told the guy he couldn't take clippers to his head for 6 months after the procedure - which, needless to say, is quite extreme.

Being cautious can be a good thing. Maybe it's because I told them I had a bit of redness last time I emailed.

Obviously check/confirm with your clinic but if you are going to shave with no guard, dependent on how your skin is, maybe use a little aloe vera gel to moisturise your skin after you shave.
