Short hairs around hairline

Hi and thanks for your responses in advance. Please can someone tell me whether the short hairs along my hairline are an early indication of recession/balding? I’ve had a mature hairline that hasn’t changed at all since I was 15/16 (now 22) and I’ve recently noticed these smaller hairs. For context, neither of my grandfathers were bald, nor is my dad - however one of my dads uncles went bald. I’m unaware of when these shorter hairs started to appear but I do have a tendency to pull back/play with my hair a lot so is it possible that these hairs have appeared as a result of me pulling hairs out causing newer, shorter ones to grows? They seem to be of a similar thickness to the rest of my hair and I have read that it’s normal to have these shorter hairs along the hairline. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

When hairs begin to miniaturise they get finer and shorter. This means they are on their way out if it is happening to those hairs. Whilst we have nothing to compare to, your hairline still looks good and very strong. If you were to lose those hairs you have exposed it would make no difference to your hairline. Try not to worry about it. Maybe take pictures every 3 months just to monitor and compare.

Thanks for your reply bigmac, I appreciate it. Would you consider what I’ve said about constantly pulling my hair out as possible reason why these hairs are shorter?

Yes, constantly pulling hairs hair can have an effect. It is most commonly called traction alopecia. You are placing the follicle under a lot of stress, it is very common in people who braid their hair.

Okay thanks again. Sorry to bombard with questions but should it be clear if this is miniaturization if I compare these photos in 3 months?

It could be but usually takes a little longer. If I were you I would just monitor it myself but if you are concerned still you could see a trichologist or a HT doctor to have your hair examined for signs of miniaturisation.
Try not to twist and pull it. It may recover on its own if you stop.

Dont pull the hairs dude you hairline is good. For what it's worth my daughter has those little hairs round her hairline and her hair is absolutely gorgeous with zero recession.....BM is right best to keep an eye on it and try not to worry as at the minute it's all good dude.

Thanks for your response, again I appreciate it. So based on my current hairline and the insignificance of those hairs do you think I’ll have most of my hair for the foreseeable?

Hair loss predictions can`t be 100% accurate. The MPB gene can skip generations and return to certain individuals.
Just going on your family history though, you stand a very good chance of keeping hold of your hair or most of it for the foreseeable future.

Okay sure. So what should I look out for with these hairs in the future that would indicate this is miniaturisation? More of them? Them spreading beyond my hairline into the more dense part of my hair? I’ve done one of these pull tests (not sure how accurate these really are) and less than 10% of my hair comes out.

You would really need to see a trichologist or similar to be sure of signs of miniaturising. As males age, it is normal that our hairlines recede and temple points diminish a bit. It doesn`t happen for everyone but as a general rule of thumb, it does.
Right now your hairline looks good. I would just monitor it every 3-6 months. Take pictures and maybe take a measurement of where your hairline is right now.

Thanks again for your response. Anyone else have any opinions?

Your hairline looks ok to me. As others have mentioned keeping an eye on it every 6 months should be enough to see if it gets worse.
