Telogen effluvium severity

I recently went through a traumatic event where physiological and physical effects lasted about a week. It was extreme enough that there was little sleep, very high stress/anxiety/rage, and even suicidal thoughts at the time. Fortunately I found help to get me through and I have turned myself around completely. The stress is and has been at a minimum since the event occurred about a month ago. I've read that extreme life events can lead to telogen effluvium 3 months later. I do know a few people that has telogen effluvium but the stress was over a long period of time. Since I turned this situation around in a week, do you think my telogen effluvium will be severe if it occurs? Will the duration of my shedding be decreased? I appreciate anyone who can share their expertise or personal experience on this.

I've been on minoxidel/finesteride topical for 6 months, I do laser cap therapy, and had a hair transplant about 6 months ago. I am male.

Hi there, it’s good to hear you received help and in a much better place now. Stress can cause hair loss but you’ve not said you’re losing any extra hair due to your symptoms. You probably won’t be affected by it.
The hair loss regimen that you’re on may cause shedding which is quite normal.
What hair transplant surgery did you have?

Thanks for your reply. I had an FUE transplant about 6 months ago and I like the results I've seen so far. I haven't noticed shedding at this point but of course I fear that in three months it will start shedding due to this traumatic event.

I read an article that reads "Telogen effluvium is characterized by the abrupt onset of hair loss - but, there’s a catch. The hair loss usually doesn’t begin until about three months after the inciting event. Why? Once hair follicles prematurely enter the telogen phase, it takes about three months for the cycle to complete and for the hair to shed."

I think you’re best not to worry about it as it hasn’t happened yet and maybe it won’t.
Have you spoke to your hair transplant doctor for their advice?
