I spoke to one such doctor that was at the ISHRS meeting in Chicago earlier this month. He was a plastic surgeon from Central America and he told me he never performed hair transplantation but wanted to take a course to learn how because he wanted to switch his practice over completely to do hair. I basically said to his face that he's naive and an embarassment, which he didn't like at all, and then I explained to him why. I wrote more about this in my ISHRS write up on my blog.

Doctors attending a short course then turning their hand to FUE are disgusting. I came across these lies on a doctors web page.

This is scary shit, I wonder how often this actually happens? Though forums can have there faults at least you are able to follow doctors and get some idea whether they have been doing hair transplants for a long time and not a few days......bad thing is people will actually use these types of doctors.......makes my blood boil!

Absolutely takes years to master most skills that have a high level of difficulty. Yes one can become better in my opinion but mastery is a different level. It seems not to require thought at some point and the skills practiced over years and years just take over. In my opinion there are only a few masters in the field practicing fue. Just my opinion though.

Thinking that someone would believe with 2 days of training under their belt they are ready to go is absolutely crazy. Some of the best masters in general served apprenticeships for years where all they really did was observe and the rest of the time was spent doing grunt work. Might be the reason why there are a couple of techs out there that probably have more skill in extractions than most doctors. Years and years of observation before actually being allowed to make an attempt.

One of the better books I have read on mastery was €œMastery € by Robert Greene. Here is an interesting quote from that book at it does seem to apply to this industry, once again in my opinion. I found it valuable hopefully some will give it some thought.

€œThe more people there are crowded into a space, the harder it becomes to thrive there. Working in such a field will tend to wear you out as you struggle to get attention, to play the political games, to win scarce resources for yourself. You spend so much time at these games that you have little time left over for true mastery. You are seduced into such fields because you see others there making a living, treading the familiar path. You are not aware of how difficult such a life can be. €

Over the last 15 years most simply gave up and said it could be done. Too many external forces resulting in low yields. This is in fact why there are only a handful of Masters today.

€œWhat separates Masters from others is often something surprisingly simple. Whenever we learn a skill, we frequently reach a point of frustration €“ what we are learning seems beyond our capabilities. Giving in to these feelings, we unconsciously quit on ourselves before we actually give up. €

There were plenty of critics over the years from my own observations.

€œMasters are those who by nature have suffered to get to where they are. They have experienced endless criticisms of their work, doubts about their progress, setbacks along the way. They know deep in their bones what is required to get to the creative phase and beyond. €
