What's this all about? Red Scalp.

Can't tell if am worrying about nothing. As you can see. I have very blonde hair. So first question is, why is my scalp so red. I've checked for like psoriasis and all of that other stuff, but it doesn't seem to be that. Apparently it's always been that colour, so I dunno whether my hair colour being so light is making the scalp more noticeable.

And on to the other part. I posted on here a while back worrying about my crown - everyone says it's normal and there's no hair loss at all. But I was using the hairdryer yesterday and it seemed my hair was a bit thinner at the part just in front of my crown. Figured it could have just been the hairdryer blowing the hair around, so I took a pic this morning after sleeping on it to see.

So does that look like thinning or is it just the way my hair grows... with the scalp being more noticeable cuz it's red?

Thanks.

Yo, I was gonna edit my other post. Am not allowed apparently. So sorry for the double post.

ANYWAY. I took another pic while my hair is wet. Now this is weird, because it looks as though just the top of my head is red. I dunno if it's looks thinner, or whether my scalp just looks more noticeable because of my luminous scalp.

Your scalp does look red, maybe go see your Gp as you may have an allergic reaction to something, what shampoo do you use.

Your scalp does look red and that could be why your hair looks thinner in that area. It may be more noticeable because of the contrast. I agree with Big Mac that a GP should be consulted about the redness.

You could also consult with a Hair Transplant surgeon to confirm whether there is true hair loss or not. The consultation with Dr. Mwamba is free so you have nothing to lose and it would put your mind at ease or give you optional solutions if you are indeed experiencing hair loss.

Erm, well I usually just use whatever we have in the house, but since I noticed it seemed to be very red, I bought some T-Gel, and it hasn't gotten any better.

I'm just gonna point out that, if I look at my hair in normal light, you can't see my scalp at all (like in the pics), and you only can in bright lights. Like those pictures, they were taken using my laptop's webcam, with my head being up close against the light from the screen.

Oh, and I've got an appointment on Monday morning with my GP to check out my scalp.

I am a barber and I find a lot of my clients who have fine blonde hair tend to have pink or red scalps a lot of the time its high blood pressure and a lot of the time its a bit sun burnt from just walking round on sunny days even in the winter.

Oh really? The sunburn thing would explain a lot since I burn extremely easily. Though my barbers say I apparently have thick hair. :/

Ether, way, I just got back from the doctors... and it was a bit weird. The doctor looked at my scalp, prescribed me some shampoo, explained that it was due to anxiety.

... then goes on to tell me that it could be seborrheic dermatitis.

So atm, it's either anxiety related or that dermatitis thing :/.

Let's see how well this shampoo works.

Hi, did you find out what was causing your red scalp?

I have the exact same problem, under direct light or in photos with a flash enabled my scalp looks red and makes my hair look thinner.

My GP said it was just normal and i;m not sure if i should get a second opinion. Its occasionally itchy aswell but i don't have any dandruff or flaky scaly skin which are the symptons normally associated for seborrheic dermatitis.

Johnny although this is not a popular opinion most of the time doctors are just guessing. They need to give you some answer even if it is wrong as that is what they are paid to do. In my opinion you should have tried using shampoo that was completely natural in ingredients with no Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

It is one of the most common skin irritants out there, just do a Google search. You would actually be better off using a bar of pure soap. Since you are fair skinned you are even more prone to have a reaction to this chemical. But this type of advice would never be given by a doctor as he would then have no purpose and would require no payment. Wearing the white coat often demands that he is the sole expert which is often not the case.
