hi everyone and thank you for reading here is my story.

i have been having hair loss since i was 15 (i am now 17 and a girl) my hair type is 3b and my hair used to be so long and thick and has recently put me into depression because even my doctors cant seem to help (i am from england by the way)

the hair loss was sudden, not gradual. at first i thought it was just normal shedding. but everyday for past 2 years i have been loosing a substantial amount of hair (a hair ball equvilent) i now have almost no hair left on my head, i would say i have lost 70% of my hair.

at first my doctors said could be folic acide issue (based on blood tests) back in 2020 march when i was 15. took folic acid everyday and changed my diet, 7 months later no change, stopped tablets but my diet stays good. i have always used oil on my hair (cocnut oil). i then switched to a mixture of rosemary oil, castor and olive oil. for past year i have put this on my hair relgiously every night but no diffrence.
if i do not put some sort of treatment on my scalp before i go to sleep i will wake up with a very sore scalp (sometimes unbearable to run my fingers through) and hair loss will be much worse). my hair loss started just mid so centre of my head, spread to the back near my neck and ears and now is effecting my front.

now i use minoxidl everyday and i use garlic and rosemary oil on my hair every other night. for 2 months been using these. i can tell some short hair is growing in some areas but hair loss is still extremely bad and is the same.

took more blood tests around 2021 november, came back i have a iron defeincy, got told it wasnt drastic. since taking iron since last november my energy and how i feel is better but my hair is the same. i also take vitamin C and cod liver pills

if anyone can please, please help me. im turning 18 soon and i really want my hair back to normal and be happy like i was before this

thank you

Hi Sarah,

I’m very sorry to read about your hair drastic hair loss. You are so young! It sounds heart breaking and I certainly hope you are able to find the cause and treatment. Did you check with a dermatologist? Wish I could help with some clever remedy or advice Best of luck .

Thank you so much. I have only been using minoxidil and the garlic for 2 months and read I need to wait 6 months to see results.
I really don’t know if it’s alopecia or pattern hair loss, or a deficiency. I will go to a dermatologist thank you, do you have anything to say about my sore scalp? Thank you

Hi Sarah. Sorry to hear your suffering hair loss at this young age. Seeing a dermatologist or a trichologist is a good idea. They know more about hair than a regular GP.
You could reach out to Eva Proudman. She helped quite a few women on the hair loss tv show
Eva gave some advice on this thread. Hair loss advice
Do you have some pictures you could share showing your loss and the soreness?
Soreness may indicate an underlying condition such as Scarring Alopecia.

Give the Minoxidil the minimum 6 months. Please report back any findings from the Dermatologist.

I think there might be the genetics or some deficiency which causes the hair loss in the very early age ..

Hi Sarah. Were you able to find a treatment plan?
Hi yes I did here is what happened since
I went and try and I got help via nhs, they weren’t very helpful, and I don’t have money for a private dermatologist.
I decided to do research. I won’t self diagnose myself but I do think I have female pattern baldness or my hair loss is based on genetics.
The hair loss was really all over my head, more in the mid area and then the back.
How I fixed it, started having my 4/5 a day with mostly green vegetables, with moderate cardio 3 or 4 days a week.
I would also massage castor oil, and use homemade rosemary water on my hair. I also would use a silicone scalp massager. But the soreness is completely gone!
It took 2/3 months for the hair loss to decrease. I am still loosing some hair but nothing like it was before!
For anyone reading this I am not a professional

That`s good news, I`m pleased you have found something that works for you. If the hair loss has slowed right down you could look into minoxidil to help grow any miniaturised hairs.

Hi Sarah. Good to hear that your hair loss has decreased. For anyone reading this, if you're unsure why you're losing hair, then I would suggest visiting a functional medicine doctor who will be able to identify the root cause of your health concerns. Sometimes, when one body part isn't functioning correctly, then it can affect other body parts too, even your hair. By treating the root cause of your health issues and following a personalized plan, you can correct your hair loss too.
