Day 14

Everything seems to be healing fine. My hair seems to be really obvious in what has been transplanted and my original which has really effected my confidence a bit.

Did try using hair fibres today but it looked AWFUL and my hair is too short at the moment.

I know the worst is to come shedding wise so wish my time away at the moment lol. Hoping after the month mark my hair will be longer so I can use hair fibres again

I remember those times John, just hold in there buddy the end result will be well worth it. I made sure I got regular hair cuts to try and make the hair look all one length as it started to grow

Thanks for the reply, will helps with the spirits. how long is it before you can cutthe recipient area? Will be a while yet but I usually had a grade 5 cut on top and 2 back and sides. I am guessing that my hair is currently at a 2 at the moment.

Once your hair has grown a little longer you should look and feel ok about it. You could try something like MSM to help with faster growth. Holland and Barrett and Costco are quite cheap for it. Your donor looks like you may have had some shock loss, the MSM may help it recover faster. Other than that, everything looks to be ok for the timeframe.

Yes noticed the shock of loss on the donor area, is that something that lasts for a long time?

It varies. Some patients recover very quickly while I’ve seen others take 6 months. The 6 month ones had a lot more shocked hair though.

Thanks for the reply Bigmac, hopefully it will recover quickly, I usually keep the back and sides at a grade 2 so hopefully this might not make it so obvious though could of done without it. Attached 2 other pictures regarding the back of my head.

Is shock loss caused by over harvesting of the donor area or is it just sometimes down to pot luck? Have contacted my clinic regarding this anyway.

Most shock loss is caused by trauma to the scalp. Blood flow is interrupted when grafts are removed. Because of this, adjacent grafts can suffer temporarily. A lot of times it is that you’re just unfortunate to get it.

Week 3.

The dreaded shedding is starting to happen. Everything else is on track, tried using hair fibres but did not look natural so will wait another week before I try again.

Wishing the next 2 monthly away to be fair..... awful stage of the process no matter how prepared by you think you are.

Your hair is probably too short for the fibres to be effective and look natural. DermMatch or similar may be a better option. Other than that, everything looks on track for this post op stage.

Hi JohnBoy, as an unbiased opinion, your pics just look like you have clipped your hair. No lingering redness which is good. It looks pretty good short too, so try not to feel disheartened. I’ll be going thru the same shortly, so I’ll be in your position shortly!!

Currently at the 4 month mark after my procedure. Not seeing much or any hair growth as yet which is slightly concerning me if I am honest, but keeping the faith. Really hope I see some hair growth in the next couple of months, still on finasteride and see know side effects from it.

4 months is way too early to start worrying. We all grow/heal at different rates. Some people will have nice early growth whilst others don’t see much right up to 6 months.
Do you feel any short prickly hairs pushing through?

6 months onwards is when most people have some indication how it will turn out.

Can not feel any short prickly hairs as yet, as you say it will be a waiting game. Have been getting lots of big red spots in transplant area over the last six weeks. I maybe wrong but i am sure i have read somewhere this is a sign that something is trying to happen in that area?
