For me, my hair has always been fine but into my early 30 s I started to notice the crown on the top of my head was becoming more visible as the hair fell out. In truth, as my Father and older Brother were both totally bald this really shouldn t have been a surprise!
As we all do, I just accepted it and lived my life with the on-going hair loss. My hairline at the front also started to recede and by the time I was 40 my usual Haircut was a Buzz Cut with Dave the Shave no stylist needed, just a quick once over with the shaver. As time went on, the receding hairline at the front started to meet the growing hairless crown at the back. I did the best with what I had but secretly always felt a slight amount of envy when I looked at most of my friends as they all had a full head of hair. It bothered me but I knew there was nothing much I could do about it. I tried Propecia and it seems to stem the loss but no new hair grew.
I found Zeiring on the web and really spent some time reading their website I found it really informative and it convinced me to contact them, make an appointment and meet with one of their Patient Advocates. To be honest, I had nothing to lose except a 45min trip to visit their Clinic in Manchester so I went with little expectation and an assurance to my wife that I wouldn t sign anything!
I did! There and then. I met with the uncompromising and effervescent Tarquin Blandford. During my appointment we reviewed my hair loss, looked at photos of similar patterns, examined the possibilities for me (we decided on 2500 grafts) and he fully explained the whole procedure it sounded complex but that fact he (Tarquin) had actually had hair restoration surgery himself I was able to see the results and the very small scar. The price was ok, I accepted and we booked a date for my surgery at the Hammersmith Clinic. Within a week all my documents came through the post and all was in order. I was 50 years old and genuinely excited about the Surgery I knew that it would take time to grow through and that no-one would probably notice but I decided to tell everyone! Why not?
A couple of days before the Surgery I was contacted by the Nurse at Hammersmith for a discussion and some helpful advice. On Thurs 18th Aug 2011 at 6am (I requested an early start so I could get the train home at a reasonable time all the staff came in early just for me!) I went into the Hammersmith Clinic and had the Surgery. My view of this procedure is that I had a long discussion with the Surgeon, agreed the hair placement areas, knew exactly what was going to happen and when and I even got to order lunch from a comprehensive menu! I felt no pain apart from the initial injection to numb the head, I fell asleep during the procedure (I did get up early remember!) and spent the rest of the process chatting to the staff and watching TV. I cannot stress enough how easy this procedure was for me it wasn t for the Surgeon and staff who really did work hard, but for me it was no issue at all. I left the Clinic about 3pm with a daft hat on and the words of both Surgeon and staff ringing in my ears Don t bang your head! Now comes the best bit of advice and can offer to anyone who is having this procedure buy yourself one of those inflatable travel pillows that go round your neck and enable you to sleep on planes. It was a godsend on the first night. It propped up my head and enabled me to sleep pretty well. Next day, I bathed and took it easy, taking my medication as directed. The Nurse called me to check up on me and answered a couple of questions I had about the medication. The next day (Sat) we flew out to Spain on a week s holiday. That alone speaks volumes to how well I was feeling, yes I had a hat on during the day to protect my hair but at night no-one noticed anything as my hair hid the scar and stitches.
Again, I must stress how accurate the Website is, it details everything that will happen after Surgery your head will swell a bit and go down in 3 days mine did, the stitches will be removed in 10/14 days mine were, you may experience some small spots when the hair starts to grow through I did, the scar will become almost invisible mine is and above all your own hair will grow through IT DID!
I had a 5 month & 9 month review where I decided to go back in for a further 1500 grafts and for that experience I went to the Bromsgrove clinic and drove home that afternoon!
I would recommend Zeiring to anyone and encourage them to make that appointment and go see. They are highly professional, excellent at what they do and the aftercare is exceptional. I m not being paid to write this review, it s my absolute delight with the experience and the results that make me want to share with people.
