Advice on first hair wash post FUT

I'm just wanting a bit of advice and reassurance please. I'm now day 4 post FUT 3400 grafts. My post op instructions state that on day 6 I can wash my hair normally with shampoo and shower direct to the scalp.
I'm just a bit nervous to finally touch the grafts after not being able to touch them so far. How much pressure / rubbing would people recommend? Is even a power shower Ok direct to the grafts at day 6? Would using Nizoral as a shampoo be OK?
Can I also give the scar a good wash and scrub on day 6 as it feels greasy and I'm sure there's bits of dried blood on it too?

Clinics have different advice on post op washing, I washed my hair every day after my procedure. I used baby shampoo as its mild on the scalp.
What I did was use a jug to pour water on my hair, then I lathered some shampoo in my hands before gently patting it onto my scalp, then I rinsed it off with the jug. This way there's not much pressure hitting the grafts.
As you will be doing yours on day 6 you will be fine to gently massage the shampoo onto your scalp, I would not use a powerful power setting, try turning it down. At day 10 you can massage the grafts and donor area more vigorously to remove scabs and any dried blood.
By the way, at day 4 your grafts should be securely in place.

Many thanks that is useful. I've been doing the cup wash method since day 2, adding a small amount of shampoo from the aftercare pack then rinsing like you said. However I've not touched the grafts as of yet.

Yea start massaging the shampoo in now, nice and gently. I would hold off using Nizoral for now as it can be quite harsh.
On which day have you been told to have stitches or staples removed.

Ok thanks. I was told to have stitches removed day 10-14, I think I got the impression that day 10 was better. However I booked with my GP practice nurse for day 13 a few weeks back, and now there's no appointments on day 10. Should I just go to a walk in centre on day 10 if that's better or does it not matter?

I used a walk in centre on day 10. It's best to soak in the bath on that day so the sutures and area are softened up. If you have a low pain threshold I'd say take some pain pills before you go as it can be a little uncomfortable. By day 10 your skin begins covering the sutures which makes it a little harder for them to be removed.

I had mine done at a local walk in centre too dude, they were very nice and seemed geniunly interested in the HT process. Great advice from BM...I echo the not using Nizoral yet though as its a harsh shampoo like BM says

You are little nervous no need to worry just massage firmly when do shampoo. I don't think there is anything else you have to follow.

The frontal half is looking good but the crown looks quite bare but I assume I will need to wait for it to grow. Overall the scar is slightly sore at the ends, especially when laying down. Tomorrow is day 10 so I will have sutures removed at a walk in centre as I'm away from home for a few days.

I wanted to know will all the hairs from the transplanted grafts definitely shed or do some people get away with them not shedding? I was NW6 with quite a few miniaturised hairs to the frontal half, will these shed or can I expect them to remain? I'm just not looking forward to being completely bald once the new grafts shed until they regrow and would prefer if I had at least the same density pre-transplant so it's not obvious I've had the surgery.

In answer to your last question it is uncertain whether your miniaturized native hairs will go into shock loss or whether they will remain it will be luck of the draw. It does depend on a number of factors and some may shock and some may not. The vast majority of the newly transplanted hairs will shed but some might stay and grow. Ultimately you are best of trying to remove these hairs to make way for the new growth.
